After imposing steep tariffs on Indian goods, the US seems to be exploring a new front: potential tariffs on IT services, foreign remote workers, and outsourced business processes. Coupled with proposals to overhaul the H-1B visa system, and an increased levy on remittances made by Green Card holders and temporary visa workers, the move points to a broader strategy that could constrain India's most significant export engine: its human resources, including its engineers, coders, and students who sustain both Silicon Valley and the ITES boom in the US.
The debate gained traction when conservative commentator Jack Posobiec posted on X that "all outsourcing should be tariffed" and that foreign countries must "pay for the privilege of providing services remotely to the US the same way as goods."
He added that the approach could be applied "across industries, levelled as necessary per country."
The post was later reposted by Senior Counsellor for Trade and Manufacturing, Peter Navarro, indicating that these ideas are resonating with the most powerful in the White House.
If implemented, such measures could fundamentally alter the economics of global outsourcing.
Tariffs on foreign remote workers would raise the cost of providing IT and back-office services to US companies, potentially prompting firms to rethink contracts, increase prices, or even bring work back stateside.
The ripple effects could disrupt supply chains, delay projects, and erode profit margins for Indian IT companies heavily reliant on the American market.

Music to my ears. There has been a vast clamor about outsourcing, H1B visas and Indian schemes to favor co-nationals on X. I have been fanning the flames.
It’s good to see that solutions are gaining tractions. H1B visas should end or be so modified that they are burdensome & expensive for the employer. President Trump, like justice, sometimes seems to grind slowly but he gets there in his own time. Make America Great Again for all Americans.
What stinking rhetoric and victimhood.
NO!
He’s making wrongs right and it’s past time to MAGA.
“prized”???
That adjective is a really bad misspelling of ‘fraudulent’.
Pakistan is on the border of Iran and the USA has to kiss up to India’s enemy in order to achieve the desired result in Iran as desired by Benjamin Netanyahu.
The Pakistani ruler its Chief of Staff made two visits to this country in recent months had lunch with President Trump at the White House in June as well.
The USA is being colonized by Asia. Ending H-1B visa would be a Great start to end this abomination.
Please do, Mr President.

Why can’t India do the IT outsourcing work for China? They are direct neighbors.
Whatever punishment is delivered, it will pale in comparison to the damage those third world nimrods have done to this country’s technology sector.
Are they “prized because they prey on ripping unsuspecting people off for their money on the internet?
I don’t hate them but too many take jobs in America.
I will say this, with the trash the left is breeding It is easy to see why these people are hired. Poor education and lazy entitlement bum citizens who are allergic to work, feed the problem.
Good. Every time I get stuck talking to someone in an Indian call center. It is excruciatingly difficult to get anything done.
I want spent probably 30 minutes on the phone with the Indian call center and eventually demand it to be transferred to a US call center. Once I finally spoke with a US based rep, they solved my problem in about 5 to 7 minutes.
India’s IT sector was completely constructed by American technology companies. This is why we get someone who calls himself Albert, but obviously has a different real name that his family and friends use, whenever we call the software company because we can’t get the computer to do something that we think it ought to be able to do. It’s also why our computer programs don’t work the way we think they should. There is a whole language barrier between us and the people who write our software. Used to be computer programs were written by people who thought in the same language as we (I say we) do. We hired them to help us and they took over as soon as there were enough of them. It’s a cultural thing. Just like Moslems who take over as soon as there are enough of them.
Can Trump Punish their Scammer sector while he’s at it?
Stop it. There are plenty of Americans that can do IT. Trashing Americans s what our enemies do.

I made an honest mistake and I should’ve made a better choice before posting. I take full responsibility.”
India’s IT is only prized because it is cheap. Quality seems to be secondary or tertiary consideration.
“India is a linguistically diverse country and supports this with its Language Policy based on the “Three Language Formula” (every child is taught three languages in school). However, its implementation has exhibited monolingual bias as multiple languages are offered as subjects of study and not as media of instruction. The medium of instruction in the majority of government schools is the concerned state’s regional language. Due to a rise in the demand for English medium instruction, governments in various states have started introducing all English medium instruction in schools.”
“There is no denial of the importance of learning English for the children in government schools in India.”
I suspect the three generally are the regional language, Hindi and English.
