September Gardening Tips and To-Do List by Planting Zone and Region
Fall is upon us, and you may be wondering what you should be doing in your garden this month? Well, we have you covered.
I’m going to share with you what your garden requires based on your planting zone and region. This way you can cross-reference to see if there are any extra tips to get your home ready for fall.
Fall is a busy time of year no matter where you live. Be sure to stay in the loop to give your lawn and garden the best chance at producing a fall garden, surviving the winter, and producing in the spring.
It is also a time when frost rears its ugly head, so be prepared by knowing your frost dates, and know how to save your plants in case of unexpected frost.

Parting Tips For a Great Fall Garden:
Choose fall-harvested and cold-hardy overwintering varieties.
Make use of season extension devices like row covers and cold frames.
Calculate your seeding dates ahead of time.
Establish fall veggies before it gets too cold.
Account for slower growth during shorter days and cooler temps.
Sneak in quick-maturing crops like scallions, baby greens, and radishes at the end of the season.

Havent tried these so I cant attest to their taste,
but they are a runaway hit according to others.
TikTok Cinnamon Rolls with Heavy Cream
The resulting rolls are plush, soft, and rich, just like Cinnabon’s. Set aside at room temp, next morning the rolls were still soft and, once warmed, were gobbled up said one baker.
Method: Arrange a tube of refrigerated cinnamon rolls in a buttered baking dish. Pour 1/2 cup heavy cream over the rolls and bake according to package directions. Once the cinnamon rolls are puffed and brown, cool, then frost and serve.
Use Grands cinnamon rolls. the cooked larger Grands cinnamon rolls resemble the Cinnabon rolls much more than regular rolls.
Do not underbake. The heavy cream slows the bake time, so even if you’re used to pulling refrigerated rolls from the oven a minute or two early, you’d best shoot for the middle of the recommended baking time. If you’re worried about over-browning, foil top once they turn golden.
Wait before icing. Let the cinnamon rolls cool for two minutes before adding the icing. If the icing is added to pipin’ hot rolls, it will melt and glaze them. Waiting a bit will ensure the icing goes on like a thick, rich frosting.
Fall is upon us, with a bang! About 2 minutes after my alarm went off, gunfire erupted down on the river .... resident goose season comes in Sept. 1-25. My window was open, so it sounded like the shooting was in my back yard - river is 1/2 mile away by road, probably closer as the crow flies and the river bends around the neighbor behind us.
It was 48° & foggy this morning & after the sun burns off the river fog, it should be another cool, breezy, wonderful day to work outside.

I have fall lettuce and radishes started. Got invited over for a Labor Day lunch. Bringing deviled eggs and cut up veggies. I am doing better FRiends!
Great time for cabbage. I’ve grown it into early December in Zone 6b. Will transplant it outdoors soon. Started carrots in the garden with some lessons learned from my previous failed attempt. I dug deep and really loosened the soil this time. Rutabagas started. It’s going to be a crockpot winter. :)
Still not 100% but I’m less bent over like an old crone today, so there’s that. I was asleep before 8pm and slept like a rock - as everyone knows - pain is exhausting!
Hoping to parlay this into some more help around here, today! Beau is very solicitous when I’m not at 100%. Kind of like the cat that hangs around, rubbing against your legs and wondering if you’ll feed it, LOL! ;)
Did this just happen recently, or is it an older litter? That breed turns darker as they age, correct? Or did someone jump the fence? LOL!

My two fondest wishes for winter are always ‘Crock Pot Suppers’ and lots of dry, powdery snow for easy shoveling and snow shoeing! (We usually get the wet, heavy stuff!)

This is an internet picture, but Blue Heelers are indeed born “White”, with just the blackest markings in place. They will develope their colors quickly though.

No Day Off for Momma Heeler!
I moved 2-1/2 months ago. I now live on a postage stamp, albeit one with a great view.
I moved some nice large deck planters. Managed to kill off the mint in one. What I need to do is revive 3-4 large planters, put them all on my WSW facing front porch, and figure out how to get water for drip irrigation up there. Then figure out which culinary herbs I’m going to put in them.
New house projects, I have a billion of them.
Did you count the white plush toy?
What do I do in early fall to help/prepare the lawn for next Spring? Aerate, overseed and fertilize.
Any other suggestions for prepping the lawn in fall for Spring?
