Edmonds, Washington — population 42,871 — may look like a postcard-perfect community, but a $13-million deficit and more than $40 million in deferred maintenance costs is pushing the city toward historic, potentially irreversible changes.
City officials are slashing services and weighing drastic options to stay afloat. “We are in a financial crisis, a significant one,” Mayor Mike Rosen told KOMO News.
Now, Edmonds is considering selling off prized assets, including City Hall and the historic Frances Anderson Center, as well as asking homeowners to pay an extra $720 per year in property taxes to help balance the budget.
Edmonds’ severe budget crunch is pushing the city toward a tipping point.
“We had cuts in the police, our public records requests, which we are required to do. We had to let go of staff in our traffic and parking enforcement, animal control, so it affects the entire city,” Mayor Mike Rosen told KOMO News.

“stuff”
Gosh, I wonder how that happened.
“Schadenfreude: Pleasure derived from the misfortune of democrats.”
Since we’re talking about the dems, wouldn’t that be SchadenFRAUD?
“Help us out so we can get through this and spend more,” the town government officials say. It is too bad civilians can not use gallows for their intended purposes when elected officials abuse with purposeful intent the coffers of government finances.
Seeing a lot of Asian free services. It's cost of living is 124.7% of the national average. Guess that's going to rise with the property tax hike. That will cause a chain reaction from rent to groceries to utilities to everything. Cyclical. Ding, ding! Redfin shows the median home selling price was $935K last month, down 4.3%. The national was $422K in July. The median property tax for the county last year was only $4388, so other than over spending, there lies the problem - cheap taxes. A million dollar home here in TX would be paying $12-14k and it will go up 10% every year.
Socialism, despite its promise of free everything, ends up costing A LOT.
This is a link to more details.
One thing to note is that the State of Washington only allows a 1% rise in property tax each year.
My take on the situation is they 1) have union workers, 2) they take care of the homeless and 3) they care about climate change.
The real problem is that they been kicking the can down the road and allowing the debt to build up.
I think I see the problem.
“For years, the city has spent more than it brought in.”
IIRC-—WHEN SHERIFF ARPAIO WAS IN OFFICE, HE TOOK OVER THE ANIMAL CONTROL FACILITIES & MANNED THEM WITH PRISONERS.
SAVED THE COUNTY A BUNDLE.
ONLY THE MOST WELL BEHAVED PRISONERS GOT TO WORK THE ANIMAL SHELTER.
CAN SOLVE THAT:
THEY HAVE NO RIGHTS.....
THEY ARE ILLEGALLY HERE AFTER INTRUDING
POPULATION==45,000.
YOU ARE DEAD RIGHT
Had a look at Edmonds on a map. Just above Seattle on Puget Sound. The vast majority are self righteous leftist. 2024 election Commiela 57% PDT 38%. Enjoy the suck.
Yup, and now the 57% wants the 42% to bail them out.
“Socialism works...until you run out of other people’s money”
Yup. If you're looking for rich, white, self-righteous liberals, Edmonds is the place. (I know Edmonds real well.)
