CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WFLA) — A caped crusader helped put a stop to a crime happening overnight Wednesday in his neighborhood, Cape Coral police said.
The Cape Coral Police Department said it was just after 2 a.m. when officers received reports of a burglary in progress at a home in the southeast part of the city.
When officers arrived, they discovered the suspect, Justin Schimpl, 20, had already been detained by a neighbor. The neighbor, Kyle Myvett, was dressed in Batman pajamas.
Myvett told officers he had gone to bed for the night but was later awoken when his home security cameras alerted him to someone breaking into his truck.
Myvett said he found Schimpl in his neighbor’s garage just moments later. According to investigators, Schimpl was burglarizing another vehicle parked at the home.
Detectives said Myvett confronted Schimpl, all while donning the Batman emblem on his chest and a fabric utility belt around his waist. He was able to stop the suspected burglar and detained him until officers arrived.
According to police, Schimpl stole multiple items from Myvett’s truck and the vehicle parked at his neighbor’s house. The items included two pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses valued at $300 each, cash, a woman’s wristlet, and more than $500 in gift cards.
The police department noted that this wasn’t the first time officers had encountered Schimpl. He’s been involved in previous criminal investigations and is known to law enforcement in the area.
Detectives said Schimpl claimed he had an accomplice in Wednesday’s reported burglaries, but the person’s name changed multiple times, and they did not find any other suspects.
Schimpl was arrested on two counts of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, two counts of petit theft under $750 and one count of burglary of an occupied dwelling, according to authorities.
“Thanks to a quick-thinking neighbor in his Batman pajamas, another burglary suspect was put behind bars,” the police department wrote in a social media post.

Luis Black: “Who the F’ are you?” “I am Batman!”
I have Chuck Norris pj’s.....
Kidding, I sleep naked with firearms and big dogs inside and out.
Da da da da da da da da….Bat maaaaaaan!
I can tell he is not real Batman because his belt and pouches are printed, not real ones.
Batman doesn’t have special powers. Neither does this guy.
“Was it difficult to catch the burglar?”
“No, it was Schimpl.”
I couldn’t stop laughing.
Headlines you never expected to read
“How he got in Batman’s pajamas I’ll never know!”
Disappointed. Thought it would be a onesie with feet.
I had a Superman outfit as a kid and all I remember is it had a disclaimer tag on it that said “Warning: This suit will not enable it’s wearer to fly”. I assume that also applied to leaping ✈ 🚄 🏛
Cute comments on here. 😆
Just a little redemption for Florida Man
“Florida man in Batman pajamas helps stop suspected burglar: police”
just think what the dude could do if he had a REAL batman rig, including a complete utility belt ...
Too funny!
I recall when Trump was first running for president—At the Iowa State Fair He was giving rides to children in his helicopter. One boy asked Trump. “Are you Batman?” His answer was simply: “Yes, I am Batman.” Seeing his first six months in office the second time—I am ready to believe him.
Did he use his anti-burglar repellent?
We know this Florida Batman wasn’t “Uncle Bob”, he was out of state at the time.
