This song might be cancelled today, or called a groomer song, as Sharona Alperin was 17 and Doug Fieger was 25, but Sharona Alperin doesn't seem to have any misgivings. She is a real estate agent and markets herself as the Sharona from the song, and even has the song on her web site. ("Do you have any houses that are a little more new wave?")

M-M-My Mom Sharona: A Daughter Reflects on the Knack Hit as It Turns 40
I hated that song. Still do. 😏
My Mackenzie.
The album pic reminds of Chandra Levy.
When this song came on the radio one evening during dinner I said to my wife, “Doesn’t it sound like they’re singing, “My Sca-rotum? She immediately fell out laughing her ass off. Yes, it does indeed sound like that. Lolol!
“I hated that song. Still do.”
Back in the day it played on the local stations about three times an hour.
I’m with you.
“My Sharona” would go on to inspire Michael Jackson’s iconic song “Beat It.” His producer challenged him to write a song that was rhythmically and stylistically similar to the Knack’s hit. “Beat It” became one of Jackson’s first major solo hits and is considered one of the best rock songs of all time.
The music, or the words, or it was played too much?
Cheech and Chong certainly thought so.
I never knew the ‘Sharona’ behind the tune! Always LOVED that song - it has it all; great base line, you can dance to it, catchy and memorable lyrics, etc.
If course as a, ‘Diana’ guys older than I am have always sung the Paul Anka version of ‘Diana’ to me. A 1957 hit; I was born in 1960.
Hey! It’s better than being associated with Michael Jackson’s ‘Dirty Diana!’ LOL!
I am a music lover. It was overplayed for sure...but I don’t really know why I hated it so much. There a some others I hate as much or more than this one.
I aways hated “teeny bopper candy music” too. Like “Yummy Yummy Yummy, I Got Love in my Tummy”.
Ugh, horrible
Yeah, very groomy.
But I am not sure you want to listen to Diane by Hüsker Dü that song is crazy.
I thought it was okay. Better than lots of the disco stuff also during that period.
I actually think the follow-up single, “Good Girls Don’t” is better. #1 hit in Canada. #11 on Billboard. (Too many people think of the Knack as a one hit wonder.)

She once had a lovely, ahem, presentation.
Great. Now I’ll have to look up all the ‘Diana’ songs out there, LOL!
FWIW, he said he wrote it from the perspective of a 14-year-old boy.
