Military lawyers to handle civilian crimes in DC

Military attorneys will be working alongside federal prosecutors based in Washington, D.C., taking on civilian cases as President Trump ramps up the takeover of local law enforcement in the nation’s capital.

Twenty members of the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps will be detailed to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in D.C., a spokesperson confirmed.

“The assignment of 20 JAGs to my office is further proof of President Trump’s commitment to fighting and reducing crime in the district,” Jeanine Pirro, U.S. attorney for D.C., said in a statement.

It’s an unusual role for military attorneys, who typically represent the armed forces, as well as soldiers in legal disputes.

Yes, because the DA and district judges will drop all the cases, turning them right back onto the streets. Zero bail.

It’s time for Congress to end DC home rule.

I’ve been out for over a decade at this point, and even when I was in I never crossed paths with a JAG. I think officer, college education, and probably brainwashed. Opinions or experiences with JAG officers from any other freeper vets?

My father in law was one many years ago. I believe he once said that he wasn’t always a fan of prosecuting someone for a minor thing but it was his job so it got done.

This a sign of Trump’s genius at work. Using the ever present high crime rate in DC as a door opener:; he has flooded the streets with federal LEOs and National Guard troops so they will already be in place to arrest
swiftly prosecute the expected communist rioters who will charge DC when the indictments of Barry Bill Hillary and the crooked FBIers drop.

There will be no delay in getting troops with live ammo there or functioning federal courts to handle cases as they arise.
Trump genius on display.

Military justice is to justice what military music is to music.

Trump won’t be able to do that in other cities but it can be a very teachable moment to the uneducated and unwashed.

Dangerous! A state government controlling Federal property does not sound wise.

I wouldn’t give these states and cities too much credit to think they won’t do stupid things that look and feel like insurrection.

JAG training is great for lawyers. They are generally more able than other lawyers without that training and experience.

On criminal matters, they prosecute under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, not the statutes they will see in DC.

They also try in front of military judges and tribunals, not civilian juries.

But they are military, they improvise.

I think this is a solid move.
