They might feed them the carcass intact which is closer to how the animal would eat in the wild then the Purina Lion Chow they normally get.

Processed food is broken down more completely by the body which means you can eat the same food in the same amount and get more calories out of the processed than you do the unprocessed.

I know they ran an experiment where they fed two bunches of animals the same diet except one was ground up and one was intact and the animals on the ground up diet gained weight.

We had a place like that, down south. We’d hang at a farm next door. The lion’s roar was awesome. I think it might have been the one that I dealt with as a cub. It bit the bottom of my Levis, and flopped to the ground. Then it rolled over, cutting off circulation to my foot. Little 10 -12 pound lion was incredibly strong. I was in pain before I got him off me.

Owner of the place was recently busted for animal neglect. They raided his home and found lots of drugs and cash. Shoulda kept the critters fed. ODOT used to bring in road-killed deer for the lion.

while giving one’s pet away for feeding carnivores at a zoo might be questionable, please do take into account that the pony had indeed been put to sleep before being given to the carnivores in the zoo.

These are domesticated animals with no predator awareness...I hope they’re at least sedated.
