-A Kano woman, Fauziya Abubakar, was sent to prison after allegedly using witchcraft to make young girls fall mysteriously ill
-The girls developed symptoms like body cuts, unravelling braids, and even barking like a dog
-The magistrate denied bail due to the severity of the case, adjourning proceedings until September 15 for further investigation
A Magistrate Court number 7, in Nomansland, Kano, presided over by Justice Halima Wali, has remanded a woman, Fauziya Abubakar, in prison over allegations of witchcraft affecting young girls in the state.
The incident reportedly occurred when Fauziya entered a residence on Lamido Crescent to use the washroom.
However, the homeowner, Malama Bilkisu, later accused her of using sorcery, which allegedly caused mysterious illnesses in two of her daughters, and a neighbour’s child.
According to Malama Bilkisu, one of the girls developed severe body cuts, and unusual sensations, while another could no longer keep her hair plaited as it would instantly loosen on its own. The third victim was said to have started barking like a dog.
Additionally, Fauziya was also accused of taking menstrual pads from the toilet.
During the court session, Justice Halima Wali denied the suspect bail, citing the severity of the girls' conditions.
Meanwhile the case has been adjourned till September 15 for further hearing.
Kano community bans boyfriend-girlfriend
In other news, the Sharada community in Kano State has banned boyfriend-girlfriend meetings beyond 10 p.m. as part of sweeping new security measures.
The village head, Alhaji Iliyasu Muazu Sharada, announced the restriction alongside 28 other bylaws following consultations with ward heads, and community elders.
Iliyasu said:
“The regulations also prohibit lovers from meeting in tinted vehicles, and ban horse riding during wedding celebrations.
“Additionally, house agents, and lawyers must now obtain the village head's approval before renting out properties,” the village head added.
Community says law made due to security concerns
Community elders say these are practices that have been exploited by criminals, and there is need for a move aimed at tracking their activities.
Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, a community member, say these laws if implemented will reduce criminal and immoral activities in the area.
“We have, many times arrested men who park with tinted windows, pretending to be with girlfriends while actually they are there doing something immoral or criminal.
“The rate at which our young girls are now lured into indecent behaviours, I believe these laws will help us separate genuine couples from criminals,” he explained.
Findings by Legit.ng shows that, this decision follows growing security challenges in Sharada, an area mixing residential and industrial zones.
The unusual ban was made to beef up security in the community, elders say.
Residents’ reports also show some cases last year where criminals used late night meetings or tinted cars as cover for robberies, and sexual harassment.
Alhaji Sharada explained that the measures aim to curb crime and uphold moral values.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that a 24-year-old man, Shamsu Yakubu, was arrested by Kano Hisbah after a viral video showed him engaging in an obscene act with a she-goat.
The suspect claimed the act was staged to gain social media attention, though he denied actual contact with the animal.
Hisbah officials condemned the act and ordered mental and drug evaluations, warning against eroding Islamic and moral values for online fame.

I’m guessing the girl maybe had very short cropped hair which was nearly impossible to,keep plaited? Like trying to braid very short cropped hair it just falls apart on its own because thee isn’t enough tension to keep it together properly? But what do I know, I’m not versed in witchcraft- who knows, maybe it’s common for witches to put spells on people’s hair lol
