According to police, officers from the 35th District responded to a report of a shooting on the 1700 block of West Olney Avenue on Thursday, Aug. 14, at 12:55 a.m.
A 43-year-old man was walking up a hill when he encountered a woman with three dogs. One of the dogs was on a leash, while the other two were not.
Police say the man announced that he was going to pass by the woman, who then called for her dogs. However, the two dogs that were off-leash ran toward the man. He began yelling for the owner to retrieve them, and as the dogs continued to approach him, he discharged his firearm several times

Would dogs size and breed matter in this instance?
no mention of the type of dogs
abolutely. if they were small yappy dogs shame on him but if they were decent size it could change things
Her fault.
They should have been on leashes and/or under better control by voice command.
I’m guessing they were not little dogs that you could drop kick or punt if necessary.
What a sht piece of human debris.
I hope the grieving dog owner sues that trigger-happy subhuman for everything he owns. Destroy him.
Dog abusers are scum of the earth.
shut up
I hope you get your throat torn out by a pit bull.
“”I’m guessing they were not little dogs that you could drop kick or punt if necessary.””
LOL! Reminds me of one of my favorite past local bands in Houston. Drop Kick Chihuahuas.
Exactly, he has no reason to let large dogs attach him, but if they were small yppie dogs, then no reason to shoot.
I don’t blame the guy. There are leash laws for reasons and there are some that have been through dog attacks that have hurt of maimed them or loved ones. Just because you think little fluffy wouldn’t harm a fly doesn’t mean he won’t.
Yeah, no. I would only shoot them if they started biting me. Most dogs would not do that, though... even off the leash. That said, I would make sure the owner paid any damages for not keeping them leashed. It is the law, after all.
One of the things I have learned walking dogs - always on leash - in DC is the utter lack of common sense among the citizens of DC who walk in public, dog owners, runners and pedestrians. Dog owners with dogs off leash feel perfectly free to walk their dogs through your dogs on a narrow path forgetting that a dog on leash is going to see a charging dog off leash as a threat. I am happy to move my dogs out of the way with enough notice to do so - they are my problem. The absolute dumbest [expletives deleted whose mothers taught them not a blessed thing] are runners who think they can just run through a gaggle of dogs a high speed. So far nothing bad has happened, but one of these days one of them is going to do it through an on leash pit bull and is going to get most deservedly mauled for stupidity. Probably play chicken with dump trucks on the paved roads as well. And one of these days one of my dogs is going to catch one of the local resident thugs on a bike who thinks he owns right of way on a narrow trail regardless of who or what is on it.
Which human?
The one negligently allowing her dogs to apparently attack a man or the man who apparently defended himself?
Maybe it’s not the best advice, but when a dog of medium to large size approaches me and I’m not familiar with it, I get down on my knees and open my hands, remain calm and speak softly, keep your distance from the owner who they want to protect. When they see you have nothing in your hands and you are not a threat, the will leave you alone. They may still bark and look a bit threatening, but not harm you. It’s worked for me several times.
Dog owners who are not responsible cause all kinds of problems for their dogs.
I was once ‘treed’ on a repeater tower by a pack of feral dogs. This in rural WA state. After I got back down, I filed a local police report and took the report to the State office in Spokane, applying for my CCW. Granted on the spot.
I carried a 357 full time after that. Never got treed again.
BTW, I was shew up as a kid by a loose dog.
