“”“Coming months’ is subjecct to interpretation.

It could mean a thousand years of months from now...””

Right. Since the so-called experts and scientists have a God complex, a month is equivalent to years, or decades even. So... false hype, as usual, from these idiots. Wonder what they’re selling “on the side” for all this “disaster warning” stuff. It’s always all about the money.

...current global volcanic risk management remains underdeveloped relative to the scale of the potential hazard.

What could we do about it anyway? I'd rather take my chances here than on Mars or the Moon. And if we would be experiencing 10-15C reductions in temperature for 20 years, how on earth could anyone prepare for that?

I guess we could start implementing mass-scale indoor gardening powered by nuclear power or something. Maybe if we got up to 20% of our calories coming from these types of operations, humanity may have a chance of making it through to the other side.

Although, the central planning and market disruption it would take to start enforcing that type of plan would likely be so disruptive, it wouldn't be worth it for the low chance of it happening in the next 1000 years.

I’m investing heavily in geothermal energy and oven mitts.

"Arezki Amiri" "End of Mankind"

Crappy, 3rd world culture "journalism". Reminds me of the garbage on local TV while on my OCONUS TDYs. They have a long head start on the crap you all have been seeing for a while from American media.

Maybe thirty years ago, a scientist predicted a catastrophic quake on the New Madrid fault, and gave the date it was going to happen. That was all my southern Illinois family could talk about that Thanksgiving. People were planning to take off from work, keep the kids home from school, etc. You don’t remember that quake? Neither do I.

Most of the magma is concentrated in the northeast section of the caldera, where 400–500 km³ of rhyolitic magma resides — a quantity exceeding the output of the Mesa Falls eruption (1.3 million years ago).

This scentence (spelling deliberate) is linguistic sleight-of-hand. I doubt mightily that a volcano ejects all of the available magma. It reads like it's a prediction, but the purveyors know it's not.

I highly doubt any website that would publish such a headline; so the story is not really worth dissecting :-)

Eruptive columns would collapse periodically, initiating pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) capable of traveling >300 km/h and devastating areas within a 100 km radius.

I really do like that hotel. Damn.

If we'd made Yellowstone a geothermal energy site instead of a National Park, could we have sucked off enough heat to keep a lid on it?

Perspiring minds want to know.

It would be hilarious if it did. I can just see the Earth flying around the solar system like a punctured balloon as it spews out all available magma. That would be a fitting end to our civilization, species, and world. To go out like a giant whoopee cushion.

On a serious note, does anyone remember the lead up to Mt St Helen’s?

Do you think a supervolcano/caldera that has been measured for decades is going to “surprise” everyone? That’s not how this stuff works. That’s not how any of this works.

The earth rising and falling would be measurable in inches/centimeters. That isn’t happening very quickly these days.
