Michael Crawford was the originator of the "Phantom" part in Andrew Lloyd Weber's Phantom of the Opera stage play.

Gloria Gaynor was a disco star, of similar stature to that of Donna Summer or Patti LaBelle.

George Strait was a pretty successful country music star, although I don't follow that branch of the music business.

That was a great show about Scientology. What a bunch of weirdos they are. Most organized religions have their crazies. But Scientology , not a religion, it’s a cult, really takes home the trophy for moon bats.

Right! The awards were never supposed to be about politics!

I don’t know which one is the conservative, but I remember that Gene Simmons wept during a speech he gave at the Pentagon. He told about when he was a child and his mother brought him from Israel that he loved that the Star Spangled Banner was played every night before the TV broadcast stopped. He loves this country!

What about Creedence Clearwater Revival? The Doors, Steely Dan, ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Chicago, the 10 zillion Motown groups, Frank Zappa, Doobie Bros, on and on.

Crap. None of them can hold a candle to The Shaggs who showed us that music doesn't have to be.

That was Leah Remini, and her expose’ of Scientology was an excellent series. I think we watched every episode.

It’s hard to believe that sentient adults can be sucked into the cult. But that can be said about some “Christian” denominations, too.

Leah Remini grew up in Scientology. It’s a miracle she made it out. She has done very good work exposing the entire organization.

I really like that lineup.

(Why is Tom Cruise being discussed as if he were a recipient?)

Leah remini. I watched her documentary on Scientologists and that’s some sick people. If I recall correctly, she was brought into the cult at a young age by her parents. So it wasn’t really her choice like tom cruise.

He’s accepted awards before, including some from foreign countries, that could be considered politically charged.

In light of those acceptances...

Not well done, Maverick.

I didn’t find anything on L Ron Hubbard’s teeth, but he has one of the more interesting pages on Wikipedia. The Wikipedia page seems to be objectively written. Among other things he served in the US Navy in the Pacific during WW2, and was convicted of a couple of crimes. The story of the rise and fall of “Diagnetics” is interesting.
