National Guard takes to the streets of DC in support of Trump’s crime crackdown: ‘Reporting for duty’

National Guard troops began deploying to the streets of Washington, DC, Tuesday, one day after President Trump signed an executive order aimed at addressing crime concerns in the nation’s capital.

“DC National Guard reporting for duty,” the US Army posted on X, including photos of several military Humvees parked near the Washington Monument on the National Mall.

Guardsmen, activated under the president’s Title 32 authority, were even spotted posing for pictures with tourists on the first night of their deployment in the district.

Earlier, the White House indicated that the National Guard was expected to “begin being on the streets starting tonight,” according to the Washington Post, citing an anonymous official.

Only a small fraction of the 800 National Guard members expected to take part in the crime crackdown mission had been mobilized as of Tuesday afternoon, with more expected to deploy in the coming days, a Department of Defense official told the outlet.

Democratic DC Mayor Muriel Bowser could not say for certain what parts of the district the National Guard would patrol, but said she expected their presence to be limited to federal property – like the National Mall.

“My expectation, though it can change, is that they will deploy the Guard on federal properties — that includes parks, monuments, federal buildings,” Bowser said in a conversation with community leaders Tuesday night, posted on X.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has said the Guard will not be involved in law enforcement functions in the district, but would be able to “temporarily detain” individuals if they see a crime in progress and police officers aren’t around.

I like the idea. 1980 I live at sixth and I, Capitol Hill, and is always safe before 8 PM when the Marines had to be back in barracks

I’m Praying and Hoping that The NG has live ammunition in Their Weapons and plenty of loaded spare Magazines on hand.

If They suddenly find Themselves in range of a gang of punks that decides to be stupid and starts a firefight The NG will be allowed to defend themselves and put down the thugs.

For the mayor to suggest they will be limited to fed-property...every street of the District...is fed-property.

I would have ‘teams’ of NG and fed-LE...with road-blocks and after mid-night checks.

The Democrats support crime because of lot of it is "reparations-in-disguise."

Thugs in ghettoes are organized crime outfits.

Fences send kids into stores to loot merchandise without fear of being caught or prosecuted. The kids turn the plundered goods over to the fences of a tiny fraction of what they're worth, and then the fences sell the goods to eager ghetto consumers.

The same principle works for carjackings.

For socialist Democrats who believe in reparations and ghetto rats who support them, this is a win-win.

And if a some white yuppies get killed in the process, so what?

The National Guard doesn’t give me a warm fuzzy. I apologize for my complete lack of confidence. It’s a bias based on observation over the decades coupled with personal experiences relayed to me by relatives and acquaintances who have (but no longer) serve. From actual lack of benefits after serious injuries are incured etc... the organization is fraught with incompetence at the highest levels down the chain to the lowest ranked boot who are continously shafted by the ubiquitous lack of proper resources and suitable training.

The only way to fix it is to wall it off and not go there.
The alligators have taken over the swamp and rule of law does not apply to them.

They will be needed short term to deal with those who think they can successfully push back and win, like they usually do.

And if any leftists complain, we can point out that they weren’t complaining when the democrats took over DC and barricaded the White House and Capitol building from we the people.

Trump is right...The Dems say...well crime is down....

If the Homicide Rate in DC is 5 times the rate in NYC....We should be proud??

Thank you President Trump.

I can’t believe that Hegseth is considering running for Governor in TN. This time of his life, with Trump, must be some of the most important, exciting, and rewarding experiences ever.

“The Dems say...well crime is down....”

A result of re-defining the word, “crime”, which they did. So many pundits forget to mention that’s what DC did.

A cop can and will shoot a criminal in the line of duty, especially when being threatened with a weapon or shot at.

I wonder what the National Guard’s rules of engagement are, if some punk brandishes a gun and threatens them, can they legally shoot the jerk? (the answer could be in the article but the Post stopped me half way through the read)

Even if they can and do whack a criminal, the media will have a field day.

I’m all done with Dragnet and Adam-12 reruns. I’m looking forward to some real-life action-packed UHD video of young DC thugs ‘n’ ho’s of any ethnicity getting their comeuppance...over and over again. Make a new PSA called “I Was A Juvenile Delinquent”, featuring post-takedown interviews with offenders who were resisting arrest. Use humorous sound effects, music and clever video editing for dramatic effect. List all participating perps in the closing credits with fictional funny sounding names (to protect the innocent)...Have an animated talking water cannon drone named “Flusher” do the introduction and narration and have the voiceover work done by Greg Gutfeld or maybe Tyrus...or...Kilmeade.
