Jimmy Kimmel is a desperate man looking for a way out, he revealed in a recent interview.
The late-night host sees the writing on the wall, including the likely evisceration of his own ABC show. Rather than bear it, Kimmel said he’s giving serious thought to fleeing the U.S.
Such a move would be driven by Kimmel’s desire to “escape Trump,” he said on the Sarah Silverman Podcast last week.
“I did get Italian citizenship, I do have that. What’s going on is as bad as you thought it was gonna be,” the 57-year-old comedian said about his own career and Trump’s gloating promise to get him canceled next. Kimmel was outraged by CBS’s decision to nix Stephen Colbert’s show after a decade leading late-night’s ratings.
“It’s so much worse, it’s just unbelievable – I feel like it’s probably even worse than he would like it to be,” he added.
News of Kimmel’s possible move to Europe comes after President Donald Trump threatened that he and NBC late night host Jimmy Fallon would be “next.” He followed up on his quip by blasting both anti-Trump comedians as talentless while fielding a question about SiriusXM’s decision to end Howard Stern’s show.
“Fallon has no talent. Kimmel has no talent. They’re next. They’re going to be going, I hear they’re going to be going,” he said from the Oval Office.
During his interview with Silverman, Kimmel also faulted the “loud” left for contributing to a cancel culture that he claimed has denigrated stand-up comedy.
“It’s not the party. It’s not the majority. It’s the loud voices that scare people from saying what they believe and make you think twice about a joke,” he explained.
“You know, a lot of their points are valid, but a lot of them are also just repulsive, in that they repel people.”
“They go like, ‘Oh, you’re no fun. I don’t want to be around you.’ And I think if you had to boil it down to one thing, that’s kind of what it is.”
Both comedians also discussed watching Trump voters express regret for voting for the president in November, only to face the wrath of an online liberal mob that refuses to forgive and forget. Silverman pointed to the hate that podcaster Joe Rogan received after expressing his disappointment with some of Trump’s actions in his second term.
“Now you see like these clips of Rogan saying, ‘Why is he doing this? He shouldn’t be deporting people,’ and people go, ‘F**k you, you support him, whatever.'” she said, the Daily Mail reported.
Kimmel replied, “I don’t buy into that. I don’t believe the ‘f*** you, you supported him.'”
“If you wanna change your mind, that’s so hard to do. If you want to admit you were wrong, that’s hard and so rare to do, you are welcome.”
Childishness.
Maybe he can move in with Ellen on a farm in England.
