6,000 years old Underwater Ruins Discovered off Cuba: A Lost City Older Than the Pyramids -- Or Be a Geological Oddity?

Recently, a mysterious discovery has resurfaced on social media, reigniting debates and curiosity worldwide: the so-called "lost city" said to lie beneath the waters off the coast of Cuba. More than 20 years ago, this underwater site first caught the attention of archaeologists and scientists, but it has remained largely unexplored since. Given the renewed interest online, we’ve taken a closer look at the international reports and expert opinions surrounding this fascinating -- yet still unconfirmed -- find that could potentially rewrite parts of human history.

In 2001, a Canadian research team reported finding massive stone structures deep beneath the ocean’s surface, suggesting the remnants of a once-thriving urban center. If confirmed, the site could be over 6,000 years old, making it about 1,500 years older than the Pyramids of Giza. But to this day, the mystery remains unsolved.

It was originally cited as 14,000 feet back when the original discovery was made - someone changed the numbers since.

For the last million years, the earth has been cooling a long time with perhaps 20,000 warmer years in roughly 130,000 year cycles. I wonder how many times in that million year hominids/humans have made significant advances in development, only to have them destroyed or forgotten or hidden under water when the probable disaster that initiated the next cold cycle began? I wonder how long before we have before the next start of the long, long cold cycle?

Looking at charts of the up and down temperatures over the past million years, you can see a significant drop at about 74,000 years in our cycle. That is the time when the south Asian volcano Toba erupted leaving a crater around 16 by 65 miles in size. In contrast the recent large eruption of Pinatubo left a crater 3 miles in diameter. Other rather large craters (at least 10 miles in diameter) have been left in places like Japan and Italy in relatively recent prehistoric times. These were prior to Firestone et al’s strongly argued boloid strike(s) in North America which started the thousand year+ Younger Dryas cooling around 13k years ago. That initial event may also have left flash frozen mammoths in Siberia with buttercups in their stomach content.

I met an archaeologist/anthropolist(?) who had moved from California to the east coast around 40 years ago. She said she and some colleagues had found human remains in CA which were at least 100k old, and were facing nastiness from their conventional minded colleagues. This was when Clovis first was still the accepted view. She came east in frustration. So, I think there are still many interesting long shots to be found, and now more people are looking—death to Clovis first. ;-)

It is a natural tendency to improve the lines when redrawing a rough sketch, so that could explain why the picture shown here looks remarkably human in interpretation. It would be interesting to see the originals that were used to prepare these images.

Why not just drop one in and do a scan now?

Cuban waters. You would have to get permission from Cuba first, else risk boarding and incarceration.

“I wonder how long before we have before the next start of the long, long cold cycle?”

We are actually a little bit late. After the last five summers I think we are finally trending cooler.

"They are the originals."

No they aren't. Those 'photos' have been radically enhanced. It's just another ufo, bigfoot, hoax. Stop believing everything you see on the internet.

I'm pretty sure that's an Octopus's garden... In the sea.

Brilliant comment, Bullish... when you know the source!

A simple google search shows it's a Beatles song, Octopus's Garden, one of the few songs written by Ringo Starr I hear.

But I didn't need google to tell me the source of this sunken musical civilization.

When I study my Japanese lessons, I often visit a local coffee shop called Penny Lane Bakery.  I bring my textbook, ear buds, and tablet to read, hear, and repeat the conversation dialogs.

It's a great study place were it not for a slight problem.  You see, because the theme of the coffee shop/bakery is The Beatles, Beatles songs are being played over and over again as background music.

It would be just fine if English wasn't my native tongue.   But it is, so my mind gets distracted by the lyrics being played,  And yeh, Octopus's Garden is one of those songs on the sound track.

So I'm trying to figure out a way to solve this problem, maybe buying one of those Bose quiet headphones.  Any ideas out there in FReeper land?

Sushiman, hope all is well.  I heard Kyushu got hit hard the past couple days by guerilla rainfall.  Take care, FRiend.
