They gave us abortion and legalized hard core pornography. Among others.
Justices were Lewis Powell, Thurgood Marshall, Harry Blackmun, William Rehnquist, Potter Stewart, William O. Douglas, Chief Justice Warren Burger, William Brennan, Byron White.
Which were good and which were liberal?
Yep. I didn't know such a resource existed. I'm still learning a lot from FR.
Also, good on the OP to get an interesting conversation going.
It’s an old trick to cherry-pick a graph’s starting and ending point.
It’d be interesting to look at M-Q scores after Reconstruction to now.
Comes right out of “Lying with Statistics”.
The Left does this all the time. They like to imply history started in 1932, or sometimes, 1900. Sometimes, even 1965!
Post WWII we put “under God” in the pledge of allegiance.
We put “In God we trust on our money”. Why? Not because we suddenly became a Godly nation. We did it because the majority of both Dems and Pubbies agreed that the US should not become a Nazi Germany or Communist Russia where the STATE was the GOD.
The next generation was the LBJ-Nixon era. LBJ’s war on Vietnam and War on Poverty/Medicare/Medicaid/Federal control of previous State welfare programs.
Nixon continued that direction. The Feds could print money and borrow with no real limit. The Feds turned the states into whores of the Feds.
I just came from GA Medicaid IT. Independent of whether one thinks Medicaid is a good or bad idea, the states are whores for Medicaid money. HHS says “spread your legs.” “The states respond “How wide?” “Would you like fries with that?”
Most things from Reagan to Biden have been trying to figure out how to adjust to that direction set by LBJ-NIXON.
Now Trump is trying what Reagan-Biden never tried.
Nixon continued that direction. The Feds could print money and borrow with no real limit. The Feds turned the states into whores of the Feds.
“We are all Keynsians now.”
If you look at most of the things you think came from LBJ, they actually started or came from the radical JFK.
It depends on the people.
If you use AI for research, it points you in a direction. It’s up to the person to follow that and make a decision.
I wouldn’t rely on “people” or “AI” without some checking. Everyone has bias.
You can put in your own bias, you control the prompts and the data you send to the LLM.
Douglas was tied to a Communist cell at Yale and a corrupt circle of New Dealers centered around lobbyist Tommy Corcoran; on the Supreme Court, he was getting payments from the Alvin Parvin Foundation (mob-connected). Marshall and White were allied closely with the Kennedys.
Well, isn’t that true when you put search terms into google.
My goodness…are we at the point where personal responsibility and self determination are reliant on all external powers?
I guess my point is that I respect my own research and the ability to form my own opinions rather than just coming on to the forum and saying, “Remind me…what do I think about XYZ?”
Not looking to get into a thing with anyone about this. Just thought it was a lazy first question.
There was a "national debate" not just a sudden court decision. And it wasn't just pro or anti.
There were a bunch of "nuanced" positions about how to control it and keep it away from children.
All manner of "studies" showing it was harmful or not harmful.
But everyone in on the discussion -- liberal or conservative -- made the same two unquestioned unexamined assumptions:
1) That porn would cost money.
2) That one would have to leave the house to buy it (because it was still prohibited through the US mail).
How far we have come.
