Emerald Fennell's upcoming Wuthering Heights adaptation has been called 'aggressively provocative' and will feature a BDSM-inspired sex scene.

The upcoming adaptation of Emily Bronte's classic novel sees Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi portray doomed lovers Catherine and Heathcliff.

But those expecting a faithful adaptation of the beloved work may be in for a rude awakening as Fennell's upcoming film is said to lean into the 'stylised depravity' she has become known for after directing Saltburn.

Here we go again, an adaptation made for the "modern audience'. Why is a 35 year old actress playing Cathy? Cathy died when she was around 18. The last decent period drama might be Austen's "Emma" with Anya Taylor Joy in 2020. Everything after that has involved race swapping and major departures from the source material.

"Wuthering Heights" the Emily Bronte book stunk.

"Wuthering Heights" the Kate Bush song is great.

Marketing. Because hearing "Margot Robbie" and "BDSM Sex" in the same sentence is going to get people talking, as we are doing right now.

I don’t even want to know what BDSM means. These gay acronyms are so weird.

Per the above...

“...“Wuthering Heights” is produced for Warner Bros. by MRC and LuckyChap, the production company co-founded by Robbie, her husband, Tom Ackerley, and Josey McNamara...”

Nuff said.

Keep digging, Hollyweird.

I remember reading it in high school, as a book considered to be highly recommended.

I recall thinking how long, wordy, and boring it was. I suspected many females loved it. It seemed to take forever to “get” anywhere.

I thought the author was probably being paid by the word.

I should probably read it again. I was not particularly sophisticated at 17 years old.

I don’t think the gay sex did anything for Outlander, other than detract from the story line.

The feature opens with a public hanging that sees the condemned man 'ejaculate mid-execution'. His agony sends the crowd into an 'orgiastic frenzy' and a nun reportedly fondles 'the corpse's visible erection'.

ok that made me laugh until my belly hurt. this is the most ridiculous over the top silliness. this would have made a good monty python skit but they had better taste, which says a lot

that song was only popular because WH was the subject matter for the English lit o-level that year in the British school system. I only know this because I had to read it for the exam

"I should probably read it again. I was not particularly sophisticated at 17 years old."

I re-read it about five years ago - still boring.
