That’s why I said whatever...
I don’t recall what it was and thentheory was plausible, wherever it was that I read it.
Theory B: She just ran out of gas and plain ol’ flippin’ drowned in the ocean, unfortunately, but her legend lives... conveniently for some.
She was from Atchison, KS.
A legend there.
I worked for a company headquartered in Atchison, very old town. Very old company (it was 150 year old company in 2021)
The beginning of wagon trains in early days, the head of railroads later.
That's what I believe happened since there are no other islands anywhere close to Howland Island.
Some people apparently actually believe that she and Noonan were somehow spies for the Japanese and didn't fly anywhere close to Howland Island.
She made the mistake of telling a journalist that she had dirt on the Clintons.
I read a good book about it. Lots of research in it. The island had radio and telegraph and they were supposed to transmit at 15 min intervals iirc and alternate between the two. Radio at noon, morse code at 12:15, radio at 12:30, etc. But their telegraph (or radio) went out. But - the US Navy had a ship anchored off the island so they used their telegraph.
After she went missing they investigated things. Turns out the ship was on Hawaii time which iirc was some interval of 15 minutes off of island time. And - the plane would have been using the time from it’s last takeoff point which was also at odds with the ship (and/or the island). They also thought that Earhart (new to using the radio) may have had the unlabelled switch from radio to morse in the wrong position each time.
Anyway - after the investigation is when it was established that all ship and plane communication would use Greenwich Mean Time.
Thanks
Yes. Exactly
The ghost of aviation, she was swallowed by the sky
Or by the sea, like me, she had a dream to fly
Like Icarus ascending on beautiful foolish arms
Amelia, it was just a false alarm
I have a cool AE story:
she was suppost to fly from Oakland to hawaia then to howland then to OZ in 1936, well she crashed the electra in Oakland and the plane had to be trucked back to lockheed in Burbank to be repaired..
well my Paternal Great grandpather and grand father worked at loclheed!!!
around this time my great grandm morther passed away my dad age 8 took it ver hard, so..
my grandfather decided to ask a favior and my dad age * and my aunt age 14 got to fly around with AE during the berial .
the ONE restriction for my dad and my aunt was to NEVER repeat a work that came out of her mouth..
AE swore like a longshoreman.. F this F that etc..
I tried to call BS on my dad.. but it was true.. NO pictures are to be had.
Wow! Great story!
Oh wow, nice job!
Yes, I’ve heard this before and think I may read the same book.
She’s in a holding pattern over Newark Airport.
Was her radio equipped for voice transmissions or morse transmissions?
