If they’re out there, God outranks them More evidence for God than for aliens anyway.

And it’s reasonable to believe that we’re alone?

There is no evidence that we are not.

Correct, doomsdayers never acknowledge their idiocy when their idiotic predictions do not come true..

The short story the TZ episode was based on:

I’m not sure why an advanced alien civilization would travel inside a giant rock on a course toward us. You’d expect a superior race to use something a bit more sophisticated.

-a renowned scientist claimed a ‘hostile’ encounter with alien life could be months away.-

Well, the warning is from a renowned scientist for Pete’s sake. That is good enough for me and I plan to spent my entire IRA in the next three months.

It’s PARTY TIME!

Space aliens could be millions of years ahead of us, or more.

Or only a little ahead of us. I liked Harry Turtledove's Worldwar series, in which an alien invasion fleet arrives on Earth in 1942, several centuries after their scouts had visited. The aliens have weapons that are ahead of ours, but not that far advanced, and the aliens have a generally slower rate of innovation.

Fun books. I'll probably reread them one of these years if aliens don't take over first.

Aliens? Try humans. What other lifeform is so poorly adapted to Earth that it needs clothing and protection from its own sun?

Never mind, for us at least, the damage of long term exposure to radiation in something like say a trip to Mars?

Surviving, fault free and with with as much redundant equipment as you could afford to carry for a very long time seems very unlikely. Never say never and all that but the probabilities of success seem awfully low for something even as moderately adventurous as a trip to Mars at lest for our form of life anyway.

I’m not losing sleep about being wiped out by aliens who have ridden our radio transmissions to find out about us. It is possible but....

Thank you for sharing that. But there is a different perspective of the “physics” if you are interested in exploring it?

What if they are not actually physically moving to travel? But instead they can just change their static location in Space/Time? If they are as advanced as I am guessing, they have mastered and utilized the entanglement theory of Quantum Physics and Space Time. And just like the proverbial StarTrek Transporter they can just wrap themselves into a package and then just relocate that package to a new location millions of light years away in a few seconds without physically traveling those miles and dangers.

So in other words when we see them darting around in the sky they are not physically moving at all and none of standard motion physics like inertia and G forces apply. They are gently manipulating space time within our own linear timeline to give us the optical illusion and visual perspective they are physically moving one direction or another. This would explain why they can move so fast and change directions so fast without turning themselves into liquid against the inside of their craft.

The more we learn about particle physics the more this appears to be a possibility. I think we are right now on the edge of discovering how the spooky entangled particles operate with dark energy/vacuum energy. We know the particles pop up from nowhere and then disappear again to who knows where. But I have a theory that they are not just relocating from place to place, or being created and then destroyed. I think they are a fog of particles that move all over the place in Space Time but are still all entangled with others in Space Time.

So if this Space Time particle energy could be harnessed, the control of Space Time I described above would absolutely be possible. And the physical forces of inertia and gravity would not apply. Not even linear time would apply... Here one minute there the next... And somewhere in the past, or in the present, or in the future. Just like dark vacuum energy particles do. Just have to make the principle universally apply to the whole package you are transporting through Space Time.

As for your second point about demons. There are always opposites in everything. When there is dark there also has to be an opposite light. Or you do not even have anything to gauge and compare the dark against... There is always up or down, hot or cold, left or right, loud or quiet, positive or negative, Male or female, Etc. Everything has an opposite. So with these entities there are both dark and light. One cannot exist without the opposite other to compare them against.

“”Anyway, methinks this is a big nothing burger.””

Not to worry. I’m sure that by now they will have thoroughly studied our historical documents... and will have concluded that we are a species of gender-fluid stupidity and good will and therefore, do not pose a threat to their civilization.

A couple of exceptions to the rule might concern them. Spock is too logical and Data is too unemotional. But since the females of the species strangely resemble the males, they are too ugly to be dangerous, so there is nothing for them to be worried about. So, we’re good.

No, it’s not reasonable to believe we’re alone. It’s far, far more probable that we’re not alone.

Absolutely nothing in the observable universe happens just once, and that fact alone should lead folks to believe that life is just as abundant as everything else. Inductive reasoning brought me to that conclusion a long time ago.

BTW. Hawking is by no means the first guy to come up with the dark forest theory. Most races are too intelligent to announce their presence. This is why we don’t hear them. That and the Fact the radio is so primitive. There was a report I read on FR about some scientist who had detected laser pulses at other stars. Lasers do not occur naturally. Nor do objects that are seen visually and on radar that accelerate at dozens of gravities.

But are not demons enjoined by God from physically harming humanity? That is why they danhle temptation before us. Their target is not our bodies or even our human consciousness. Their target is our souls. So no, I do not believe these are demons. What they ate I have no real concrete speculation.

Indeed. It’s a replacement religion in many cases. Hawking was an athiest IIRC.

Spoiler Alert: There is probably no one else in the universe but us (In this time period at least).

I am more and more convinced you are correct. Aliens in our literature and art have become substitutes for gods and demons.
