Police find getaway car of army veteran suspected of deadly Montana bar shooting

Police have found the getaway car of a US military veteran who walked into a bar in the western state of Montana on Friday morning and fatally shot four people, but the gunman remains at large.

The shooting happened at The Owl Bar in the city of Anaconda at around 10:30 local time, the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation said. The bar owner told AP news agency he thinks the suspect just "snapped".

Police said they have found the white Ford-150 pick-up truck that the suspect used to flee the scene, but no sign of the gunman.

Authorities are now focusing their search in a mountainous area west of Anaconda, and have asked residents in the area to stay home and lock their doors.

The Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Law Enforcement Center named the suspect as Michael Paul Brown in a social media post, adding he is "believed to be armed and dangerous".

According to public records, he lived next door to the bar.

The owner of The Owl Bar, David Gwerder, who was not there at the time of the shooting, told the Associated Press: "He knew everybody that was in that bar.

"I guarantee you that. He didn't have any running dispute with any of them. I just think he snapped."

An Army vet that “just snapped”? With this bring in the PTSD ref flag people? I hope not.

There’s bound to be a motive and the cops will likely figure it out.

Sometimes I think I’m the only person who doesn’t have PTSD. Which I feel like is giving me PTSD.

I wonder what kind of meds this guy was given.

I know, for a time, the V.A. was good for giving you a handful of meds and shuffling you out the door!

I am tired of ptsd as an excuse for veterens...WW2 vets came home from war and went to school or work and started families..no time to wallow in self pity and they had just as much if not more horrific situations as present day vets.

Their commander in chief wasn’t Clinton, Bush, or Obama.

I take it that the owner of the bar had seen him in the bar multiple times.

Maybe the best outcome at this point is if they find him dead by a self-inflicted gunshot, before he kills anyone else.

If PTSD is not a factor why all the suicides every month or are those just made-up statistics?

I gathered that but how could he possibly know who was there that the shooter knew? If I read the story right (which, I admit, it's possible I didn't) the guy who wasn't there said the shooter knew everybody who was there .

Granted, it was a small Montana town but I work in a sports bar in a smallish Northern Commiefornia town and I know most of our customers but I wouldn't go so far as to say that everybody knows everybody else.

Many were alcoholics and beat their wives. They were not angels. They just were untreated.

“I know, for a time, the V.A. was good for giving you a handful of meds and shuffling you out the door!”

I know on vet who is on a drug for depression. But he still says he’s depressed. Doesn’t seem to experience the next obvious thought about that.

The term Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder hadn't been invented yet but the thing was real. The movie Best Years Of Our Lives addresses it closely enough for my WWII and Korea veteran father to say he never wanted to see it again.
