The sequel to the beloved 1996 comedy, Happy Gilmore 2, premiered on Netflix, arriving nearly two decades after the original film hit theaters. Adam Sandler, known for shaping modern Hollywood comedy with hits like Grown Ups, reprised his iconic role in this follow-up, which streamed directly online instead of being released in cinemas. This revival marked a significant moment for fans and came with a notable financial arrangement for Sandler.
Details of Netflix’s Deal with Adam Sandler An exact figure for Adam Sandler’s salary for Happy Gilmore 2 has not been officially disclosed, but it is linked to a larger multi-film agreement with Netflix. According to reports, the streaming giant committed $250 million to Sandler to produce and star in four films as part of their initial contract. This deal was signed following the success of Murder Mystery, a Netflix release featuring Sandler that drew impressive viewership.
The first film under this deal was Hubie Halloween, a comedy about a well-meaning man devoted to his community during Halloween. This was followed by Hustle, a sports drama highlighting Sandler as Stanley Sugerman, a scout for the Philadelphia 76ers, co-starring Queen Latifah and Ben Foster. These projects illustrated Sandler’s range and Netflix’s confidence in his continued appeal.
Expanding Partnership Beyond the Original Contract While the original deal encompassed Hubie Halloween, Hustle, Leo, and Murder Mystery 2, Sandler and Netflix have since extended their collaboration. New productions like You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, Happy Gilmore 2, and Jay Kelly followed, with reports indicating another contract worth around $275 million was signed. Although specific financial details remain private, dividing this figure by the number of films suggests Netflix paid approximately $68.75 million for Happy Gilmore 2 alone.
This deal places Sandler’s earnings on par with major industry contracts, such as the $100 million Netflix paid filmmaker Rian Johnson for his Knives Out projects, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and its sequel Wake Up Dead Man. Netflix’s commitment to Sandler underscores both his enduring popularity and the streaming platform’s strategy to secure exclusive content from established talent.
The Impact of Sandler’s Netflix Collaboration on Audiences and Hollywood Adam Sandler’s continued work with Netflix highlights the shifting landscape of film distribution, where streaming services now offer lucrative deals, bypassing traditional theatrical releases. For audiences, this means beloved characters like Happy Gilmore remain accessible through their favorite platforms. Meanwhile, Sandler’s ability to innovate in comedy while securing multi-million dollar contracts speaks to his influence and adaptability in entertainment.
With Happy Gilmore 2 now available, fans are eager to see Sandler’s take on his iconic role after decades, and Netflix’s commitment suggests more projects from the comic actor are on the horizon. This partnership hints at evolving industry trends, where streaming giants compete for exclusive content by investing heavily in established stars.

Haven’t seen too many Sandler movies, but the ones I’ve seen were just awful.
that show is for dimwits
Hollywood is long out of gas.
uhmmmm.....Someone ran out of fingers and toes when they were counting.
I loved Happy Gilmore. Read the plot for this one. AWFUL.
This is money well spent for Netflix.
He is age 58 which meaning aging out in Hollywood, especially for high paying roles. Really, this guy has never made me laugh. This movie is a smash, I guess for children and families. He is a money making machine, net worth 400 million.
I’ll bet there is zero gay, zero tattoos, zero hate America in this movie. So Adam Sandler and his crew here, are filling a need.
I have to admit I was skeptical but it’s an entertaining movie. Seeing Eminem getting eaten by allegators was pretty funny. For golf fans all the cameo’s were great.
The Bob Barker fight scene in the original was great.
I actually liked the movie. I don’t watch much tv at all but did like the original and was encouraged to watch the sequel by a couple friends that said it was good.
But the risk is that with the "established stars" getting all the monied roles, there won't be a generation under them to grow into characters that our grandkids will want to see.
Nothing against Sandler, but my grandkids won't want to see a 40 or 50 yr old man looking and acting like a kid.
Maybe we are looking at the seeds of their destruction?
I guess I just have no sense of humor...
“Happy Gilmore 2” had the biggest U.S. opening weekend in Netflix history with 46.7 million views in three days.

______________
Agree! Plus this movie is a global smash. Rotten Tomatoes has it at 69% audience score. A victory for lame humor. 12 year old boys everywhere will love it.

Outside the U.S., “Happy Gilmore 2” had a tremendous global impact on Netflix. In its debut weekend, the film not only set the record for the biggest U.S. opening but also soared to number one on Netflix in over 60 countries and claimed a spot in the Top 10 in 88 countries worldwide. Netflix’s own reporting through TUDUM and entertainment analysts confirm that the film amassed 46.7 million views in its first three days globally, with the vast majority of those coming from outside the U.S. market. During the same tracking period, “Happy Gilmore 2” topped the platform’s Global Movies chart and outperformed every other movie in terms of views and viewing hours, clocking 91.9 million hours watched worldwide.
Notably, countries where the film ranked number one include Canada, the UK, Australia, dozens of European nations, and much of Latin America. The only significant exceptions to its domination were Japan (where it peaked at number 10) and Indonesia. The original “Happy Gilmore” also benefited from the sequel’s success, vaulting into the global Top 10 movies on Netflix with 11.4 million views during the week of the sequel’s launch.
In summary:
46 million watched. Not a bad number. Your grandkids don’t have any real men actors. So maybe they need movies with a 58 year old.
Were did Adam Sandler vacation for this movie?
I have tried watching it several times and cannot finish the movie.
BITCH!
I’m not much of a fan of his humor, but he is a heck of a good businessman. He is surprisingly successful and seems like a really decent person within the entertainment business. He is no slouch.
I like his movies but will probably skip this one as I am not interested in decades old sentimental cash-grab sequels.
