US allies buy Russian gas worth billions of dollars, Donald Trump slaps India with penalty

Most of the US allies continue to buy Russian gas even after the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine War. The EU and NATO member states are close to Washington, and they have bought natural gas worth hundreds of billions of dollars from Moscow since the beginning of the war.

Has President Donald Trump exposed the US hypocrisy over trade by imposing a 25% tariff on Indian goods plus a penalty for doing business with Russia? Though he has not said explicitly what it means and how much penalty India will have to pay for buying crude oil and military hardware from Russia, it is clear that he wants to punish New Delhi for having business ties with Moscow.

However, a cursory study reveals that most of the US allies continue to buy Russian gas even after the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine War. The EU and NATO member states are close to Washington and they have bought natural gas worth hundreds of billions of dollars from Moscow since the beginning of the war. These countries have bought Russian oil despite the US sanctions imposed on Russia.

How much Russian gas do US allies buy? According to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), Russia has sold fossil fuels worth more than $315 billion since the beginning of the Ukraine War. It has sold nearly half, or $149 billion, to the EU nations and even more to the NATO countries.

It is interesting to note that the EU’s largest economy and one of the founding members of NATO, Germany, is the second-largest importer of Russian fossil fuels. It imported natural gas worth more than $12 billion. Besides, Germany also bought crude oil worth $13.3 billion and coal worth $0.7 billion. In total, Germany purchased Russian fuel worth $26. billion from February 2022 to February 2023…

The rest of the story western MSM buries…..I find it amusing….Despite 18 Sanctions packages, Vlad continues to roll in the dough.

Sanctions haven’t worked and are only political “ feel good” moves.

This is why the whole support Ukraine thing from Europe was bullcrap. They were playing both sides of the war, while we funded it.

I think Trump should back off. Screwing up our relations with and the economy of India is not the best way to screw Russia.

I guess that Europeans, despite all their BLUSTER, don’t really consider Russia much of a threat - or they wouldn’t be FINANCING HIS WAR MACHINE.

It is interesting to see just who is going to get hit hard by sanctions and it's more than who who most think.

The Trump sanctions are geared as much to put pressure on the EU to stop obstructing Trump peace initiatives and force Zelensky to the table as they are to put pressure on Russia.

France may be one of the the hardest hit except for China and the Trump Administration using the purchase of Russian oil and gas as a pretext to crack down on India's trade protection policies..

Me thinks President Trump is now listening to the war mongering Neo Cons…..big, big mistake….and many of us are still waiting for our promised Gold reserve audit.

More than a few things are starting stink.

Meanwhile, we funnel billions to The Ukraine in a useless endless war. Who owns all the Raytheon stocks?

The story is incomplete. Several countries in NATO were given exemptions in order not to tank their economies. Hungary comes to mind. They have no infrastructure to get their gas from other suppliers. The Trump administration has handled a difficult situation with great delicacy and finesse.

I think you all need a good strong dose of support President Trump.

As for oil and gas, the psychos in the Biden administration cut off our exports while admitting the cut off was bad for the environment.

Gold reserve audit? You’re waiting for it? Ok.

I would agree. It’s one thing to sanction Russia. Russia is in the war. But India is not bothering anyone. Let them decide for themselves what their best interests are.

India CAN do whatever it wants.

But it is also OK for another country to decide they don’t want to do business with them.

It’s OK for a person to drink. It is also OK to choose not to be around that person. Same thing.

Biden screwed the US Nat Gas business. We have to unwind the stuff he did so that the US can step up. That’s gonna take some time.

We don’t have that problem with India.

We should also slap a tax on remittances from the US to India. That would leave a mark as well.
