Medvedev reminds Trump of Russia's Doomsday nuclear strike capabilities as war of words escalates
Reuters Yahoo News ^ | 7/31/2025 | Andrew Osborn

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Thursday told U.S. President Donald Trump to remember that Moscow possessed Soviet-era nuclear strike capabilities of last resort after Trump told Medvedev to "watch his words".

-snip-

"If some words from the former president of Russia trigger such a nervous reaction from the high-and-mighty president of the United States, then Russia is doing everything right and will continue to proceed along its own path," Medvedev said in a post on Telegram.

Trump should remember, he said, "how dangerous the fabled 'Dead Hand' can be," a reference to a secretive semi-automated Russian command system designed to launch Moscow's nuclear missiles if its leadership had been taken out in a decapitating strike by a foe.

“Besides critiquing Trump which is fair, what is your solution?”

Nice to hear someone interested, instead of the grade school yappers that I’ve had to deal with all morning.

1) STOP listening to the Neocons, particularly Graham, Kellog, and the Europeans. All they say is that the war is nothing more than a typical Russian land grab and just keep fighting...and losing.
2) START listening to Tulsi, who knows far more about the war and its history, and that the war involves far more than just Ukraine.
3) UNDERSTAND that something on the order of 150,000 to 200,000 Russians have been killed so far - Putin, or anyone else in power, is not going to simply freeze the war, just to have it restart when the next Democrat gets into power and starts trying to take back the land. Biden lost that land, for good, and we’ll have to come to accept that fact.
4) UNDERSTAND that Europe has PROMISED, multiple times, that they will send troops into Ukraine should a freeze take place. Russia would have to be INSANE to agree to a freeze with that hanging over their heads.
5) Try to view the NATO expansion as seen by the Russians, it’s not hard considering that we have Central America and Mexico where we’d be just as concerned regarding the Chinese setting up bases and biolabs.

At that point, negotiations could begin. Both sides have cards to play, but Russia is not going to be like the Europeans were this week and simply give away the store to the US.

Trump has shifted his focus on leveraging lives to leveraging power and money. He is not going at the battle like neocons, but facing it as a leverage problem.

Trump is good at using leverage.

I see that the battlefield Trump is engaging in isn’t the one with soldiers, tanks and bombs.

He is using the leverage of money.

The battle field is the being done country by country as he gets tariff deal by tariff deal.

If this were a game of risk, you would see Trump slowly surrounding Russia country by country and aligning our power of trade with each country.

This is not the battlefield that Russia can win at. No modern country can afford to be isolated from world trade and survive without huge sacrifices.

“He is using the leverage of money.”

I agree that Trump has no plans to start WW3, but he’ll find that his economic leverage is rather limited.

Look at it from the point of view of India and China. They can take one of two approaches, either crash their economy by Trump imposing 100% tariffs, or crash their economy by doubling (or tripling) the price of oil that they have to now buy on the spot market.

From the point of view of those living in those countries, it’s rather clear to me that they’re neither government is about to buckle to Trump, if they want to stay in power.

I could be wrong, and the spot price for oil may double, thanks to shutting down the 5M or so barrels per day that Russia presently exports, but then that will create some problems with the MAGA base.

Trump has a way of finding leverage that no one else understands or sees.

“Trump has a way of finding leverage that no one else understands or sees.”

We’ll see...maybe that’s what he’s doing, but if I’m right, then perhaps Trump will later take the steps needed to put an end to the war.

Well if all the fabled secret weapons truly exist in our arsenals that even Trump has hinted at, Russia may force our hand to reveal them against a now decidedly existential threat! Because we are going to need them...flying tic-tacs and all that!

Medyev has been threatening us for a while while Putin has been restrained in his direct threats against us...good corrupt cop alternating with bad corrupt cop(medyev). My assessment is that the Russians feel backed into a corner with nothing to lose. They are using increasingly bellicose language in the hopes that antiwar factions will react in fear and will act and protest western governments to try to get the west to stand down and let Russia have its way with Ukraine. While I believe the corrupt Ukrainians invited this disaster upon themselves, they weren’t the only ones via Ukraine pulling at Russia’s beard. War was sewn in Ukraine by western Corruptocrats, now I fear we shall reap the full horror of it!

The Lilliputians of the west , the globo-homo-pedolists, the bankers, the WEF, The EU fascists, all want Russia and America to destroy each other in the vain hope that they can sweep in and take over as the new hyperpower, barring China, as they figure they somehow won’t get swept up in nuclear fire.

Thus they have been manipulating events, governments and media strategies towards this Nuclear laden high noon showdown they seem to be rooting for. Even the USA Dems seem to want America gone(and Trump) by pushing the USA to fight Russia. Somehow they have this fantasy they can be the ones to pick up the pieces and rule a shattered USA like the Commies at heart that they are!

I’d start gathering emergency supplies and idodine solution that one can paint the skin with to protect ones thyroid. The living survivors will envy the dead! I don’t see how we can avoid this engagement without at least a major nuclear gamma ray tan!

Right on. This is not what everyone signed up for. Does MAGA now mean any country in the world who dares act in their own interest is an automatic US enemy to be threatened by the petrodollar sanctions? Who the hell would sign up for a New World Order that only and exclusively benefits the US? Thats beyond Bush Sr’s wildest dreams. I believe the offer was an end to neocon forever wars. They should’ve rang in 2025 with the arrest of Victoria Nuland et al and a public apology to the people of Ukraine for 300k dead to satisfy 50-60 state dept and CIA war pigs.

I appreciate your comments, largely disagree at least about why this war happened. You have made your points clear, here are mine.

This war has nothing to do with Ukranian Nazis, or protecting Russian speakers (largely Russian speakers are in Ukraine because they displaced Ukrainians during Soviet Union days or were forced to learn Russian over Ukrainian, nor is it about NATO expansion or Russian security.

NATO has been on Russia’s border for decades, no war, no invasion, quite the opposite the west including EU had invested heavily in Russia, and had become energy dependent on Russia. Meanwhile letting their militaries degrade. Not exactly the position of nations looking to invade.

Putin likes to talk about Russia being invaded, all the while not talking of all the invading of neighbors it has done, Finland (winter war), Poland (allied with nazi germany), Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Hungary, Georgia, Chechnya as well as China(would be worried about XI and his “historical claims”)and of course Ukraine

My position is and has been, this is all about Putin’s often discussed lament of the fall of the Soviet Union and the resulting loss of power and prestige

As to not being able to settle because of losses, and I agree. If he does he is gone, that makes it an existential threat to him, not Russia.

The losses are on his head

“My position is and has been, this is all about Putin’s often discussed lament of the fall of the Soviet Union and the resulting loss of power and prestige”

If that were true, then Neocons SHOULD have chosen to work with Putin to try to prevent the war, and then stop it early on, rather than simply telling Putin that Ukraine is “None of their Business”.

By your theory, this approach would have been futile and Putin would have invaded anyway, but the world would have known who to blame for that, and in that hypothetical situation, there’s a good chance that Putin and his people would have been booted from power, or at least the rest of the world would have seen Putin as another Hitler...rather than just the Biden Girls and their captive countries in Europe.

So, if nothing else, the Neocons played RIGHT INTO the hands of Putin, made him super-popular in Russia (and many, many, other countries) and now the Neocons are in the process of losing Ukraine, for good.

If Putin’s goals were taking of Ukraine and more, as I believe, then there was nothing “to work with”, and at best there would have been a chamberlain, peace in our time moment. Actually 2014 was pretty much that moment.

We will obviously have to agree to disagree

Take care

One thing to keep in mind about Chamberlain was that his “Peace in our Time” gave the world NO DOUBT as to Hilter’s ambitions, when Hilter violated it, without provocation, as far as I know. It actually was a brilliant move by Chamberlain.

Interesting take on that moment, lol shocking I have a different one.

Chamberlain thought he could negotiate with hitler by giving him what he wanted. If your point was correct then the world would have gone to war after Hitler took the rest Czechoslovakia in violation of the agreement, 6 months after “peace in our time” The world did nothing until hitler invaded Poland6 months later, with Soviet Union as an ally 🤔

Interesting similarities, hitler demanded Sudetenland because of “ethnic Germans “ in that land. Hitlers waited 6 months to take the rest of Czechoslovakia. Pitin took Crimea and parts of the Donbas…. The world did little, waited 8 years and is trying to take the rest of Ukraine

I am sure that Hitler thought the world would react the same way to his taking of Czech, that the world would not go to war over Poland. War plans show that hitler was looking at around 1945 to go all in, likewise I believe that putin thought the world would react as they did in 2014 with a flurry of strongly worded letters and weak sanctions.

Both were mistaken.

Fair point. However, I don’t think there is any mention of the Brits saying that the Munich Agreement was a farce to buy time, so that they could later go to war against Germany, as both the Merkel and Hollande has stated about the Minsk Agreements.

You do bring up the timeline. Hitler rose to power in 1933, built up his military, and 6 years later was taking over large parts of Europe and 8 years later had the whole continent in up in flames. Seems that Hitler wasted no time in doing so.

Putin, on the other hand took 22 years to make his first move (Crimea was to protect his bases on the Black Sea, which were about to be handed to NATO) and Putin actually cut his military in half, or more, during those 22 years, which is why it took him 3 years of fighting to get the small piece of Ukraine that he has.

Anyway, it sounds like Germany and UK want to fight Russia in few years (assuming they haven’t handed power to their Muslims prior), so we’ll see how that goes.
