Jimmy Hoffa’s final morning on earth, in late July 1975, began with a photo session at his suburban Detroit lakefront home, and thanks to government files, we can see those images 50 years after his disappearance.
The portly labor icon posed for photos on July 30, 1975, and then drove to a scheduled luncheon meeting with a pair of hoodlums from Detroit and New Jersey.
The mobsters never showed, standing up Hoffa, and the famed labor leader himself was never seen again.
Hoffa remained officially missing for seven years, and was declared dead in 1982.

Live by the sword and die by it.
he’s buried under the old Giants Stadium, which is now the parking lot of the new Metlife Stadium....
BTW- i clicked on the article and saw some guy passed out on a couch- is that hoffa?
He’s a hot dog Jim.
The house painter got him.
Surprised he was not wearing a suit. Hollywood has taught me mob bosses were immaculately dressed in public. I don’t believe the pics.
Very powerful scene.
Exactly.
Wouldn’t the obvious suspects be supporters of the person who took his place as union leader?
I want to the story to see the pic and it was not there. Is that what clickbait is?
Hoffa. Teamster Union. Corrupt. Arrogant. Playing footsie with the Mafia. Everything you would expect a Union Thug to be. Then he disappeared, no trace of him, body never found. Probably in the end zone of Giant's Stadium. Mystery to this day. LAST OPENED: 01/15/2004|MythBuster Episode
And, I regret to say, that is it for me. But am I wrong? If I am missing the key context, I would like to know what that is.
Our brains are pretty amazing, but I do sometimes feel I just cannot fit one more thing into. But...it always seems to find more room. So, the name of "Jimmy Hoffa" sits on a shelf in my brain, gathering dust, until a door to a long dormant and darkened room, is opened and "Jimmy Hoffa" gets the dust blown off it.
And opening it I see:

Fitzsimmons - was supposed to be a ‘placeholder” until jimmy came back. He liked being “The Guy” too much.
I had a “Hey Fitz, where’s Jimmy?” bumper sticker on my car.
The powers that be didn’t like it very much and tried to get me to adios it but...too bad...
The house painter is a liar.
What happened to Jimmy is obvious.
He got paroled from prison. Part of the parole required that Jimmy was no longer allowed to participate in teamster union politics, no longer seek office in the union. Of course, first thing Jimmy does is decide he wanted his old leadership position back.
The mob didnt want Jimmy back. They were perfectly happy with Jimmys replacement, Frank Fitzsimmons. Frank wasnt a showboating, publicity hound. The mob just doesnt like attracting unwanted attention. Plus, Fitzsimmons was far more corrupt than Hoffa. Even Hoffa said no to some of the mobs schemes every now and then. Frank never said no.
The mob tried talking Hoffa out of seeking his old office. But Hoffa ignored them. They tried bribing Hoffa to back off with a multi million dollar pension, but Hoffa still said no. That was it. Hoffa signed his own death warrant when he turned down their gerenerous pension package. If Hoffa was going to turn down millions, there was no way to talk him out of running for union office. So, Hoffa had to go.
The idea that they buried him at the location of the then still being built giants stadium is ludicrous on the face of it. Transporting Hoffas body half way across the country? Too risky. The mob has never done that to any of their victims. Chances are they transported his body to a local funeral home in town, cremated the body, and scattered the ashes to the winds.
I didn’t think I’d like The Irishman but I did.
But Jack Nicholson did a fine job in Hoffa.
I used to drive past Machus Red Fox (Hoffa disappeared from there or their lot) several times a week.
I have an alibi for the famous day, though. I’m clean.
In real life, Tommy wasnt dispatched that quickly. Rumor is that they (the gotti crew) tortured him for a few days or so before finally killing him.
For quite a while, the gambino family had been well aware of Tommy’s transgressions against them. Namely murdering their 2 made guys without permission. Billy Batts and Ronald “Foxy” Jerothe.
The gambino family had been putting pressure on Paulie and the Luchesee family to let them have Tommy, or else. They had to give up Tommy or they were in a lot of trouble, possibly facing a war. So, Tommy had to go.
They lured Tommy to his killers by promising that he was going to get made. When he arrived, he was surprised to find the Gotti crew sitting there. Bwcause the Gotti crew belonged to the Gambino family, they werent supposed to be in attendance of a making ceremony by the Luchesee family.
They grabbed Tommy and tortured him for days. Tommy was in so much pain, he was begging them to just kill him, which they eventually did.
I know a morbid subject, but hard to believe it’s been 50 years.

I’ve heard a convincing rumor that he’s alive and well, underwent plastic surgery, was living comfortably in Argentina, but passed away about ten years ago.
Liked the movie too, especially since I happened to read the book about a year before the movie came out.
