For the first time in its history, Russia is fighting alone against the entire West, so we cannot afford weakness. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov․
"We have a lot to do. The most important of them is to defeat the enemy.
For the first time in its history, Russia is fighting alone against the entire West. In the First and Second World Wars, we had allies. Now we have no allies on the battlefield. Therefore, we must rely on ourselves," Lavrov said.

There would have been no fight in the first place if Russia had not invaded Ukraine.

The collective “west” will rue the day it cornered Russia.
That is hard to imagine, given that Russia seems to have proven itself to be a paper tiger. They cannot take even one minor capital city on their own border, in 3 YEARS of trying. MAYBE they could take Poland, if it was 1-on-1, and Belarus gave them free passage... but they'd never get to Berlin.
That being said... cornering a large industrial nation, and adding long-term and overly-punitive consequences, did not end well for the world the last time it was tried, in the Treaty of Versailles. Tread carefully.
