TV shows in the 70’s was a different era altogether—one where boundaries were loose, sensitivities were different, and what passed for humor often reflected the social attitudes of the time. Many catchphrases from that decade, while harmless in their original context, would raise eyebrows and spark controversy if used today.
15. “Whatchoo talkin’ ’bout, Willis?”

MASH was the same way.
As a kid I never realized it was bashing America’s military.
But like you said, some characters and the humor made it subtlety anti-American.

Sheesh, a waste-of-time screed on things we took lightly then, and still take lightly now, given that we have functional logic. Only left-wing “trigger-vulnerable” marshmallow majors with nose rings and dyed hair and journalism manors are offended...for obvious reasons.
“The sheriff is near”.
That list is gay...
The writer of this piece is a liberal idiot.
Agreed—leftist articles often read like Babylon Bee satires of leftist articles.
I hope this did not offend anyone.
Lol.
Fred Sanford: “ Beauty is only skin deep but ugly goes all the way to the bone!”
and
“I don’t want to be President, I want to be the king!”

We’re turning into the world Sly Stallone woke up in in Demolition Man.
I pity the fool who would take offense at these expressions.
I knew MASH was anti-Vietnam and a liberal message but I didn’t know how bad, until I stayed for awhile with a friend on his couch.
My friend’s household had cable TV which I didn’t know much about and it fascinated me (about 1980), I watched the MASH series one show after another for 3 and 5 hours at a time and was shocked at how left wing it was, at once a week it was obviously biased but when seeing them one after the other in binge watching, it was a tsunami of leftism being pounded home.
You bet your sweet bippie. I used that phrase yesterday.
“What seemed harmless or even progressive in the 1970s feels offensive or outdated today, as our understanding of respect, inclusion, and appropriate comedy continues to evolve.”
Good Lord. “Appropriate” comedy...
Yes it was. Don’t think that ever made it to tv.
Black sheriff with his gun to his own head, “ Don’t come any closer or I’ll shoot the ni@@er.”
“Let the Chinaman go, save the mule. They are valuable.”
What a load of woke crap. Every one of these is still funny and without them, no one watches network tv anymore. Figure it out woke princes.

Al Bundy

The days when opinions were allowed now one would have to use smelling salts to get some to come to.
My prediction is that people who are so ‘woke’ that they can’t take a joke - will find themselves sitting at home alone, wondering why they never get invited to anything or asked out on a date.
