I never liked Trane. I tried, I really did because he was considered great by so many but nope l just didn’t. He seemed to have absolutely no grasp of the less is more concept.

Was he related to Roscoe P. Coltrane?

I liked more Blusey jazz. Freddy Hubbard, those guys.

Wes was one of the greats, top 5 without a doubt. Can’t go wrong with Miles in the cool period.

He was a great sideman to Miles Davis.
Davis kept him on script.
But when left to his own devices...his playing degenerated.

I love John Coltrane's music during the 50's and early to mid 60's. One of my favorites is My Favorite Things from 1961. I like the idea he went with a soprano sax after being known for using tenor for well over a decade. Can't go wrong with Giant Steps as well.

Fact. Wes and Miles never hooked up. Fact.
Drives me nuts but it is true. Man that would have been freaking awesome!@!

Yes, eventually. To me, albums like Ascension and Meditations (both released in ‘66) and everything after that are noise — unlistenable. But between ‘60 (when he left Miles) and ‘65 he put out some great (albeit inconsistent) music.

That song is hypnotizing, I had the privilege of meeting McCoy Tyner years ago.

Cool. In the early ‘90s I saw McCoy a few times and Elvin Jones once, both at the Catalina Bar & Grill in L.A. Tyner’s shows were hypnotizing for sure.

In college I had a Jazz show every Wednesday night. GA Southern.
Now I listen to KUVO, a Jazz station out of Denver.

He seemed to have absolutely no grasp of the less is more concept. No, he didn't. Because later, his approach came to be called "Sheets of Sound".
So not really a good comparison.

It sure is. Love McCoy Tyner’s comping on that tune as well.

I've heard people refer to Michael Brecker as "Just another Coltrane Clone."
I disagree.
