People used to say that violent cartoons made children violent. As a kid I watched all the sixties cartoons and never felt the urge to enact any of the violence. Then, one day the cartoons ended, and my neighbor’s passel of kids came running outside and they were hyper and enacting similar violent and harmful things that they had just seen.

Even as a child I realized they were extremely stupid kids. Maybe lack of intelligence, forethought and insight, along with constant violent media enables children to do stupid things to others. Even in movies, you see the same actors die and then they’re just fine in the next movie. I had a cop describe the scene where a black child was pointing a gun at him and he eventually talked it away from him. He said when he tried to explain he might have killed the kid the kid said, “Yeah, but then I’d do...” The conversation repeated several times, and the black kid had no concept of what death meant.

Maybe he'll get shanked inside. Personally I think public slow impalement in the exercise yard of a juvenile incarceration facility with broadcast on network TV would provide somewhat of a deterrent. Young ferals have no regard for the lives of others, but maybe seeing some of their own suffer a medieval fate it might sow some caution if only for the consequences to themselves.
