GOP dysfunction over Epstein leaves Senate Republicans angry with House
The Hill ^ | 07/24/25 6:00 AM ET | by Alexander Bolton

Senate Republicans are not happy with House conservatives they view as hijacking the congressional agenda to make the disclosure of Jeffrey Epstein-related files their burning focus.

GOP senators say the matter should be left to President Trump and the Department of Justice and want House lawmakers to pay more attention to finding a way to avoid a government shutdown at the end of September.

Instead, House Republicans on the Rules Committee have brought their chamber to a partial standstill by refusing to vote down Democratic amendments to force the publication of Epstein-related files.

The House is about to leave town for a five-week recess despite having passed only two of the regular appropriations bills for fiscal 2026.

“You can’t do anything because of Epstein,” one senior GOP senator fumed. “Wow, what a way to shut it down. … How does it happen?

“We’re supposed to be focusing on governing the country. Let’s not get caught up in the tabloid exposé stuff. Let’s keep the government open. Let’s pass appropriations bills. Let’s do the boring stuff of governing and let other people get all ginned up about who’s sleeping with who,” the lawmaker said.

Senate Republicans are second-guessing Johnson’s effort to quell the controversy by sending his members away from Washington early to begin the August recess.

“I think that’s a silly reason to go home,” said Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), who has called on the Trump administration to “just release the damn files.”

Tillis suggested Johnson is deluding himself if he thinks that the problem will simply go away by sending lawmakers away from Washington for an extended recess.

Bondi, Patel and Bongino really screwed the pooch on this one. Meanwhile, Gabbard is out there making those three clowns look incompetent.

It was always true that the BBB had no teeth in it whatsoever because of government shutdowns at the appropriations process. Authorizations don’t matter if you cannot appropriate, and there are no reconciliation processes available for appropriations.

The Democrats and the available 60 vote requirement neuters the BBB. The current continuing resolution expires on September 30th and almost certainly another will be the only way the government gets funded, and it cannot pass without Democrat agreement.

Not related to Epstein —

Isn’t there a rule that allows the President to force a recess of one branch of congress if the other branch is already in recess? I think this was discussed a while ago.

If congress is in full recess, Trump might be able to appoint a bunch of people that might not survive regular confirmation.

“...to avoid a government shutdown at the end of September”

The GOPe is house right on schedule to lose the majority next year like they always do. One may champion the idea of a third party, problem is we need an initial second party to replace.

Thankfully Trump seems to have gotten his way on “controversial” appointees. Even the RIBO-hated Emil Bove seems certain to be confirmed.

Deshowitz said that no one currently holding any office is on the “so called” list...which is not a real “list” ....more like a rolodex...

The Treasury Epstein file is more than just a rolodex. Anyone who tries to claim that doesn’t have a clue.

Bank of America did two SARS reports long after they were due

That , in and of itself, needs investigation.

Apparently, Johnson also has never heard of the Streisand effect. Shutting down the House early because of Epstein guarantees this isn’t going to magically disappear .

Unlike Democrats we don’t care which political party you belong to if you’ve committed a crime. If there are Republicans on there, so be it. Jail them all. Or else we’re just as bad as them.

If the administration stops the gaslighting and starts releasing the files (protecting the innocent, national security) we can move on....

If not they will drag the entire party down with them.

Stonewalling, name-calling and evasion is the worst possible strategy.

The senate has only approved ONE Trump nominee for federal attorney. Prosecuting the traitors needs to be done in a place like Florida. Currently, all of the federal attorneys are Biden appointed.

Recess appointments would cure that situation and Speaker Johnson knows this. Hence, the August recess.

I do not understand.

Congress does not control the release of Executive and Judicial Branch documents.

Why does Congress need to stay in session?

Trump tried to release Grand Jury testimony.

Trump was blocked by the Judicial Branch.

How is Congress involved in that?

The House is supposed to be hypersensitive to public opinion. The Senate is not.

This is actually how things are supposed to work, for once.

The House should move on. Let DOJ and FBI do their job.
Get the Budget in order.

The DemonRATS had that list for at least four years. That thing doesn’t resemble the original list if there actually is one. Now, the list of DemonRATS politicians having conjugal visites with incarcerated, deported, undocumented, illegal alien gangbangers would be a different story. That’s the list we should be able to see.

Dems are wising up to this ridiculous misdirect that you people trying to excuse the coverup keep using as a tactic

There is a function on Grok that I didnt know about called roastblast. Someone asked Grok to roastblast what happened in the hearing. Here it is

Grok

Oh, the Epstein files saga: Dems sneak in a vote like ninjas, GOP fumbles like Keystone Cops, and suddenly everyone’s on board for transparency. Careful what you wish for—those docs might roast both parties alive. Release ‘em and let the chips fall! 🚀

Here is the post

DEMS PULL UPSET ON EPSTEIN FILES:

🚨MAJOR BREAKING: In a genius move, House Democrats were able to pass a motion in the GOP-controlled House Oversight subcommittee to subpoena ALL the Jeffrey Epstein files.

Republicans were blindsided because Democrats dropped an 11th-hour motion at an unrelated hearing after noticing that most GOP members on the panel had publicly demanded the files be released.

The GOP chair was caught off guard and scrambled—first delaying the vote, then trying to sabotage it by adding amendments to include Biden administration communications. Democrats called their bluff and agreed.

Then the GOP chair, Rep. Higgins, lied, claiming the motion FAILED until Rep. Robert Garcia forced a full roll call vote.

Ultimately, the vote passed 8-2 after 3 Republicans DEFIED their leadership and joined all 5 Democrats to pass the motion.

RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES!!!

and here is the

I think Grok did a pretty good breakdown of what happened
