The EU’s War on Farmers
The European Conservative ^ | 16 Jul, 2025 | Lauren Smith

Amid disastrous green diktats and crippling cuts to farmers’ livelihoods, the out-of-touch elites in Brussels seem to have forgotten where their food comes from.

This afternoon, farmers from all over the European Union met outside the European Parliament to march on the Berlaymont, the European Commission’s HQ. Organised by COPA-COGECA, the umbrella body for 22 million European farmers, the demonstration should by all rights be a wake-up call for Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The unions will hand over a petition signed by 6,335 organisations, along with a symbolic pair of boots, in protest of the EU’s plans to carve up the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and cut farming subsidies.

The budget, announced today, includes folding CAP into a single national spending envelope and shrinking subsidies by 20-25%—that’s a cut of between €80 and €100 billion in real terms. It also proposes a €100,000 cap on the payment any one farm can receive and gives cash-strapped member states leeway to raid the farmers’ pot for other priorities, such as defence and industrial policy.

Today’s march is only the latest eruption in a long-running revolt of farmers versus Eurocrats. Just a few months earlier, in May, Polish farmers gathered in the northwestern city of Szczecin to express their fury at the EU’s agricultural policy. Among other concerns, they demanded that the Polish government scrap newly imposed, overbearing regulatory restrictions and refuse to cave to the EU’s environmental mandates. This was in many ways a continuation of the 2024 protests, when Rural Solidarity, the largest farmers’ union in Poland, staged a series of protests and convoys against the European Green Deal, as well as grain imports from Ukraine.

“The budget, announced today, includes folding CAP into a single national spending envelope and shrinking subsidies by 20-25%—that’s a cut of between €80 and €100 billion in real terms.”

Europe has HIGHER PRIORITIES than its farmers, or any other Europeans. First priority, of course, is getting their invaders settled in, second is keeping Ukraine on Life Support...so, sorry Europeans, you guys don’t really matter anymore, and if you do start acting up, we’ll cancel your elections (Romania), rig your elections (Moldova), shoot your candidate (Slovakia), or delete your political party (Germany, soon).

Oh yeah, the other HIGH PRIORITY in Europe is defending their freedom from that tyrannical government in Moscow.

I never could understand the contempt people have for farmers.

Where do they think their food comes from?

Have THEY ever tried growing their own?

I garden every year and what I raise, is eaten. But every year I tell mr. mm that I think God that we don’t have to survive on what I grow. Not that it’s not good quality, but we just don’t have the time or space to grow enough to get us through the winter and to the next growing season.

“Green” is just a pretext. The ruling class wants starvation as a means of killing off the population. Because they do not need so many working class people.

The war on farmers in the Netherlands is explicable if you keep in mind a couple of ulterior motives. For one thing, the Netherlands is the number one exporter of beef in Europe (the bulk of the sales going to Germany). The Greens are fine with less meat for you. And the land expropriated by the government was planned to be dedicated to low cost housing developments for You Know Who. The Euro media attempted to frame the objections as greedy farmers only angry about the loss of government subsidies when in fact the concern was, and is, over the loss of the land itself.

SOME YEARS AGO, I WATCHED A POLITICIAN IN SAN FRANCISCO ON TV SAY:

“I DON’T KNOW WHY WE SHOULD HAVE CATTLE RANCHERS——ALL THE MEAT IS AT SAFEWAY”.

LIVE-—ON CAMERA-—AND HE BELIEVED IT.

FIL used to have a hobby farm with about 50 head of Herefords.

They were good eatin’!

When my wife went away to college, she literally did not know how to buy beef at the grocery store. Meat came from white butcher paper wrapped packages from the chest freezer in the basement. NOT from a foam tray wrapped in cellophane!

One season, her younger brother named one of the steers. David the steer. Yeah, it was mildly traumatic when David ended up in the freezer.
