Lots of people have things set up on automatic.

Money goes into their checking account and bills are automatically paid.

As long as they live below their means they can build up quite a bit of excess cash.

They never look at their paycheck because they never see it.

The money is always just there.

Their accountant would have caught it at tax time.

And now it’s time for a joke.

A Scotsman opens his paycheck and finds that he’s been overpaid by 5 pounds. He says nothing. The next week he opens his paycheck and finds that he’s been underpaid by 5 pounds.

The Scotsman angrily confronts the payroll clerk about the underpayment error. “Angus,” the clerk says, “you were accidentally given 5 pounds too much last week. Why didn’t you say anything then?”

“I can overlook one mistake,” Angus replies. “But not two in a row.”

What’s MOST remarkable to me is a Veterinarian making nearly half a million dollars a year.

On the other hand, I own dogs and, after many years of paying vet bills, now take my dogs to Tractor Supply vet clinic. Same impersonal service at about a third the cost. Immunizations? only the bare minimum. Dogs are healthy and my bank account is better for the decision.

"Arrua, who is originally from Argentina."

In Argentina, anything that isn't nailed down, behind concertina wire or inside an electric fence belongs to you...

I get the automatic bill payments, the direct deposit, all that ...

I do a lot of that, too.

I also scrutinize my bank, investment, and credit card accounts. Need to make sure that all is in order, across the board. Trust nobody ...

I have a hard time believing “Veterinarian” was actually making $450,000 a year for being a Vet. Whole story is feeeshy.

At my most recent employer, payroll went through several layers of approval before processing.

One time somehow a whole lot of hourly people were paid twice on a payday.

Yeah. In my town a vet clinic charges $950 to spay a cat. The vet 4 blocks down the road, with a small office, charges $350 for the same procedure. The clinic vet will not even come in nights or weekends for. emergencies. We have to go 40 miles away for an emergency.

I bet the veterinarian will do that from now on but people are extraordinarily trusting until they have a reason not to be. Especially people who have always had money.

For those of us who have had occasions when we paid the rent and had a whole 74 cents left, we tend to keep a closer eye on things.

Been there.

Done that.

Don't ever want to be there again.

Perhaps that underlies my habit of careful scrutiny.
