I had chicken pox when I was six, bumps and scabs all over my face and body.
Well in the last week I've noticed red spots on my arms and some scabs.
Shingles, I don't know, but I feel fine.
Burning, itching, thoughts of suicide..................
Have you had your shingles shot? People who had chicken pox when young can come down with shingles. My dad did when young and got the shot.
Dry Attic?
You can get an antiviral to help, if within a couple days.
Shingles can cause permanent, intense pain. A close relative had that—and nothing could blunt it.
From very recent personal experience, shingles will present itself on one side of the body (weird, I know), but I’ve learned that’s a telltale sign.
In my case, I thought I’d pulled a muscle in my left shoulder. A couple of days later there was more discomfort... felt like a long-grade flu. Then the rash appeared — mostly on the back across the left shoulder blade.
My doc took one look and confirmed... 10 days of acyclovir (I think that was it) and things improved. The nerve damage from the rash continued for over a month, though. Almost completely over it now.
Call me paranoid but at this point I wonder if they’re sticking the COVID vaccine into the shingles vax for the oldsters who declined the jab.
Question for the smart people here ... can you get shingles more than once?
Shingles was the most painful experience of my life.
70 days of sheer hell.
Get checked. Shingles can be dangerous (and you can spread the virus from your scabbed areas) to pregnant women or others who have not had or been vaccinated against chicken pox. It’s especially bad for adults who’ve never had or been vaccinated against chicken pox.
I had chicken pox in high school. Another embarrassing week among many (that zit on the tip of my nose, for example). I heard enough horror stories about shingles so I got the shot.
I had some tingling and asked a friend of mine who was a doc, and he said it is was the onset of shingles. He sent me right away to the pharmacy for an antibiotic ( I think) and I only got mild case.
If it is on your arms PLURAL - it is not shingles. Shingles is only on one side of the body.
The Covid vaccine can lead to an outbreak of shingles, even for those vaccinated against shingles. But I found it not nearly as painful or long-lasting as the cases of friends with a “normal” outbreak of the disease. It responded to anti-virals and to steroids.
Got my 2nd Shingrix shot a week and a half ago. Have to get the 2nd within 2 to 6 months of the 1st. Heard enough horror stories about Shingles. Sore arm for two days after each but nothing compared to Shingles pain. Not mRNA.
I recommend getting the Shingrix vaccine. It’s not mRNA. It’s uses a protein strand model that’s been used since the 1980s. It’s also extremely effective, which again sets it apart from the Covid mRNA vaccines.
I had it, was like a line of red bumps under my shoulder blades and felt a little like a sunburn, but mine wasn’t too bad. I started taking elderberry (antiviral) right away, and switched to the doctor rx antiviral a week later. I ended up going back to the elderberry because it seemed to be more effective for me. Lasted about 3 weeks.
I had it around my waist. Thought I had an ulcer or intestinal disorder. Didn’t hurt much. Lost 9 pounds w/ no effort. Doc prescribed me some antiviral pills.
So shingles = $430 with insurance.
I saw two great uncles go through hell with Shingles. I got the first of the Shingrix shots the day I turned 50. Spare me any conspiracy theory RFK nonsense. I remember well having measles as a kid I cannot contemplate having it in old age. All my kids and now gkids are vaccinated.
It’s not foolproof you could still get Shingles but it has been effective at stopping and/or greatly lessening the symptoms. And yes it’s a fancy “recombinant zoster vaccine”. So if you think Trump is an alien bent on reprogramming your old worn out DNA dont get it.
Even younger people can get Shingles. Don’t wait get the jab.
Lots of little red dot eruptions on skin that HURT LIKE HELL way out of proportion to what you’d expect! That’s because it attacks nerves. When I had it decades ago the treatment of choice was some sort of vitamin B injection. I don’t know about now. Get to doctor ASAP to minimize your suffering. Especially important if on forehead or anywhere near eyes..can permanently destroy vision.
