I'm posting this as a vanity post because 20 minutes after the announcement, the only source that's published a story on this is Bloomberg, which doesn't allow re-ups.
Copper is already up 11% today, having already advanced 25% year to date.

    From
CNBC:
“Today, we’re doing copper,” Trump said during a Cabinet meeting at the White House. “I believe the tariff on copper, we’re going to make it 50%.” He did not say specifically when that tariff would take effect.
Trump also said he would soon announce tariffs “at a very, very high rate, like 200%,” on pharmaceutical imports.

How is anyone supposed to do business when policymaking is this erratic and unpredictable?

I’d like to see serious time for copper thieves and their buyers.

Frankly, while I’m delighted to take a $70k profit today, it’s a hell of a way to run an economy. Everything about this process since February 2 has been ad hoc.

To: ryderann
    Copper thieves certainly are brazen.
A real “You can’t catch me, Copper”, “Cu in court” kind of attitude.

This will massively injure American consumers and producers using copper — just to benefit a few American mine owners.

To: Big Red Badger
Pennies have been zinc with a wash of copper since the 1980s.
