Sewn with pride: Flag factory gears up for 250th anniversary of nation

Kansas City, MO – With Independence Day and the United States’ 250th anniversary just a year away, one Missouri company is stitching its way into history.

Allied Materials, based in Kansas City, has been manufacturing since 1951. The company now makes about 1,000 flags per day, with many destined for military funerals, government buildings and patriotic front porches nationwide.

"This is kind of our Christmas," said Tyler Young, president of Allied Materials. "We start preparing months in advance, building extra inventory because we know this is the weekend Americans will show their patriotism most fervently."

The company is the largest vertically integrated flag manufacturer in the U.S., producing over 300,000 flags per year for federal agencies alone — including the U.S. Senate, the Department of Defense and military bases around the world.

"We make federal government-compliant flags," Young said. "That means every single component is sourced in America — from the cotton seed to the dyed fabric. There are no corners cut, no costs spared. It truly is the best flag you can put in front of your home."

Each flag begins with American-grown cotton or nylon, which is dyed, rolled and cut into stripes. Those are sewn together in Kansas City and joined with embroidered star fields made in the company’s Louisiana facility. All flags are inspected and trimmed before the final touch: metal grommets that make them ready to fly.

Will there be a semiquincentennial flag like the 76 Bicentennial flag?

Reason no 734 why I’m grateful Kamala wasn’t elected. The “celebration” would have been an orgy of self-flagellation. “We haven’t always lived up to our ideals…” “tell us your story” about how our wretched country has held you down, etc etc

Me I’ve got my Betsy Ross flag flying and my 20” X 30” banner with the “250” logo on it to hand underneath. I urge everyone to make a point of patriotic displays, a good in and of itself. I think it might have the side-benefit, if a lot of people are feeling good about the country, of helping deliver victory in the midterms

And, yes, I know the Ross flag is anachronistic, since the design was not approved by the Continental Congress until June 15, 1776. Close enough though, I say

Beat me. See my no. 3. The Bennington Flag, which has stars and “76” in the field, was not actually created until 1777. It will be as anachronistic as my Betsy Ross flag is now, but still I’m thinking of switching to it around the first of the year

We flew Betsy Ross or Appeal to Heaven flags during the entire Biden Failure years.

And a Trump do lag of course.

The Google camera drove by whole Betsy and Trump were flying proudly.

It just struck me how much the gays have taken over the word “pride”. I see the word “pride” these days, and I automatically think “gay”.

Bro, who was a proud Coast Guard member in the later days of Vietnam, said he received a free flag from the government as a “veterans benefit”. The flag was “made in China”. Hehe, he sent that damn thing back with a scathing letter that altho he meant no or would ever disrespect the real flag, he mentioned a very specific place where the government could place that particular made in China one.
