The rear component eventually gets back into position by scooting sideways and they get back on their way.

I’ve traveled that stretch many times. This was video taken at the bridge where I-70 goes over I-81 in Hagerstown, Maryland.
This is traffic cam video so it is not the best.
Those blades travel down I-70 all of the time.
