A wind turbine blade crashed onto I-70 in Maryland on Monday morning.
The Maryland State Highway Administration reported, “At approximately 5:30 a.m., a tractor trailer traveling westbound on I-70 was pulling a wind turbine blade that struck the guardrail causing the blade to go partially into the eastbound lanes.”
SHA added, “The blade was then clipped by a tractor-trailer traveling eastbound.”
The incident hospitalized one person and closed the westbound lane on I-70 for several hours.
A video of the incident was uploaded on X.

Was the photo made of Lego Land?
The picture looks fake somehow.
I’ve traveled that stretch many times. This was video taken at the bridge where I-70 goes over I-81 in Hagerstown, Maryland.
This is traffic cam video so it is not the best.
Those blades travel down I-70 all of the time.
So it’s not just a Yugo that kills.
Don't forget the Whales.
The older video cameras for security and roadway monitoring are analog. A few years back software companies developed programs to convert the analog signal to digital in order to share it across multiple users and online portals. The images tend to look like that if the setup is poor.
With such setups, you can see vehicles disappear and reappear or odd things where they look like a row of white cars and alongside each of them is an odd shaped image in the color the car should be. The software converted the car and the color but calculated the locations improperly and didn't line them back up.
GREEN ENERGY KILLS
I am starting to think such headlines are made misleading, by design, for clicks.
Thank you!
Yes. Their hypocrisy knows no bounds. The stopped almost all logging in Oregon to save the Spotted Owl, but they don’t care one bit for the millions of raptors, bats, and insects killed by those infernal machines.
I moved to California from Missouri in 1973 after I graduated from college. One of the big environmental concerns in the 1960s through 1970s was the visual pollution from a handful of offshore oil platforms (and oil blowouts like in Santa Barbara). But nary of peep from the same people about the visual blight of hundreds of miles of the ocean off our coasts. Not one complaint that I’ve heard.
Damn hypocrites thoroughly disgust me. I wish people in Congress would wake up to these facts.
I drive between the California Bay Area and North Idaho a couple times a year. When you are going north on US 97 in Oregon, about 15 miles south of the Columbia River you start running into windmills. Thousands of them. As you said, frequently 90% are not turning. What a HUGE waste of investment in an asset that runs at 30% capacity factor at best. Without government subsidies, nobody in their right mind would invest in something that doesn't produce output 70% of the time. The Columbia River Gorge is (er, was) magnificent and is covered in the machines. I grieve for our kids and grandkids who will never know those once-magnificent, unspoiled vistas. I despise the wind companies, wind turbine manufacturers, and government people who are doing this.
The damn wind farms are spreading throughout the Palouse hills region of Eastern Washington state. Talk about another magnificent region about to be ruined!
Nope. I live here. The insanity is real and so is the photo.
.
Truly idiotic path. Locally, there is a solar panel farm nearly completed using 300 acres of prime farmland to generate 30 MW. A few years ago, I installed a 5 MW CHP plant on about 1/2 acre. runs 24 hours a day.
I remember reading an article here about a year ago that they were building the biggest cargo plane ever for the specific task of transporting giant wind mill blades. The mass insanity is indeed real.
