Changes could be coming to Southwest Airlines over the next few years.
While at an airport industry conference this week, Southwest Airlines CEO Bob Jordan spoke about the future of the Dallas-based airline. His goal is to stop losing customers to competitors.
"Whatever customers need in 2025, 2030, we won’t take any of that off the table," Jordan told CNBC. "We know we send customers to other airlines because there’s some things you might want that you can’t get on us. That includes things like lounges, like true premium, like flying long-haul international. I want to send fewer and fewer customers to another airline."
Speaking of airport lounges, Jordan mentioned Southwest's familiarity with Nashville International Airport. He said, "Nashville loves us, and we know we have Nashville customers that want lounges."

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Anyway there is one transportation company, that does not charge baggage fees, Greyhound bus line.
Stopped into a local convenience store that also serves as a Greyhound bus stop, and there was a 40ish guy wearing a tie dye t shirt, and his luggage was two hefty garbage bags. At least he does not have to pay baggage fees.
there are no baggage fees if your baggage is in bags
There are no baggage fees if you drive.
More leg room (lots more), assigned seating, and clean (er) interiors.
Along with excellent maintenance and flight crews, that's what we want.
Do those and customers will come back.
They are going to actually make money?.............
Some of us have an ocean to cross
You have my sympathy.
FWIW, when I still flew, after having luggage go missing frequently, I started overnighting my luggage to and from.
Worked a treat.
I think that the CEO is talking out his backside.
Paul Singer who is effectively the CEO of Southwest now, bought controlling shares at Southwest for one reason alone - so he could add a whole bunch of charges to the fare, up the stock price and sell back the shares for a profit. Well Paul Singer can go F*** himself.
Can’t drive or take the train to Europe, Africa or Asia or the Caribbean and Latin American. I guess you could drive the Pan American highway all the way to Panama if you don’t get killed in narco country.
SW needs to use their 737 Max 8,9,10 with ETOPs certs and the legs to cross the Atlantic and deep into Latin America across the Caribbean. Opening cheap flights and competition to the Caribbean island arc and Brazil, Argentina and Patagonia would have loads of people wanting to holiday down there. 800 dollar flights are a turn off $400 or $300 would sell out. The Max series has the legs and more importantly the fuel economy to allow for those price fares at $6.50 JETA per gallon.
I fly SW because they leave Love Field not DFW so much better airport experience at Love. I’ll connect to another airline at Atlanta, Denver if needed. This is what the CEO is trying to avoid have more direct connects from their hub at Love to international flights.
Domestic nothing beats JSX if they fly to where you need to be. They also fly out of a private gate and FBO at Love it’s exquisite. You show up 15 before your flight. They valet parking your car which is cleaned and detailed if you want on return. You hand the valet your bags they deal with them, you walk to a dedicated security metal detector or wand no shoes off,no pat down not harassment it’s all smiles and welcome. You chill in the lounge drinking commentary scotch in my case. Then walk in the tarmac to the aircraft door and off you go in a semi private experience. Best way to fly if you are not fully private charter.

In the U.S. you are allowed ONE stowed article. A fee is charged for excess baggage beyond that.
If they could get rid of the brawls, that would help.
Have you ever flown SWA? I fly SWA four or five times every year.
There’s plenty leg room.
You get assigned a boarding group and a spot in that boarding group. It works fine.
Their jets are spic and span.
Planes, jet ramps, and waiting areas are always in excellent condition.
Employees are very friendly and often very funny.
On-time is very good.
The app is very good. Flight information in the app is very good. Check-in is easy to do. You add your boarding pass to the Apple wallet and show it on your phone when you board.
The customer retention / points program is very good.
The SWA credit card is very good.
I flew all the airlines until I retired and now concentrate on SWA and occasionally Alaska.
Agree. Singer is going to utterly destroy SWA.
I liked the fact there weren’t assigned seats. I’d pay the extra $25 to get an early number so I could choose my own.
I like to sit in the very back. Closer to a bathroom and the beer.
Dude, what are you complaining about - they are still there :-)
But then the supply of Youtube videos would drop precipitously. Or maybe I could switch to the Spirit and Frontier Airline videos.
Ditto. And I liked the layover cities they used. Not too big. Sometimes a dump with no decent food. As long as I could overpay for beer I was fine.
Kansas City was the worse. I enjoyed Burbank.
