Just one African-American candidate will appear on the ballot for Mayor of Mobile. Lawrence Battiste and Jermaine Burrell withdrew from the race Wednesday and officially endorsed Barbara Drummond.
“This moment we’re in calls for unity,” said Burrell, a former Mobile city councilman.
Battiste, a former police chief, says polling showed that none of the three black candidates was likely to make a runoff.
“You need to position yourself to be one or two,” Battiste said. “If you’re not one or two, it doesn’t matter. Number three is the first loser. So, the goal is how do we come together and give one of us an opportunity to be in the top two?”

So if it’s about electing candidates based on skin color, I need to vote white?
All three of them are RACISTS. It’s not about the best candidate to them. It’s about skin color.
Absolutely! Take a page out of their playbook and vote your skin color; for a conservative, that is!
I noticed that from the very first sentence.
I was nine years old when I saw MLK on the TV wanting his four little children to be judged not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
I believed him. I believed him for 62 years.
I was stupid. Skin color, reproductive equipment, and choice of perversion are all that matter.
King, I’m sorry you lied to me.
I blame that more on white liberals, than on MLK. Identity politics is what keeps white liberals in power, and their black step-n-fetchits, as well.
I was being poetic :-) you’re right, of course, it’s the DuBois descendants combined with all the I’m-better-than-you-schlubs white liberals.
There's a myth that all too many people buy into (including some conservatives) that MLK was at heart a conservative or at least a sensible moderate who meant what he said at face value. The reality is that MLK was a leftist with close ties to Communists and the rest of the radical fringe. If he were alive today, he'd be right at home among the BLM types.
