Six people died, two people were hospitalized and two others remain missing after a boat capsized on Lake Tahoe Saturday night.
Just before 5 p.m., the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office received multiple reports of a capsized boat carrying 10 people near D.L. Bliss State Park.
The lake was reportedly experiencing large swells and waves were reaching 6 to 8 feet high. Witnesses told South Tahoe Now that around 3 p.m., the winds suddenly picked up, creating dangerous conditions on the waters.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Awful. Tahoe is super deep.
Em. A life preserver is necessary
Tahoe spooks me. It’s deep. It’s freezing.
Fredo sleeps with the fishes there.
Super deep...
Yes... That implies that there is a lot of exaggeration in those supposed wave heights...
Hopefully the nude beach was unaffected by the supposed tsunamis...
We need Sara Jane to check it out and give us a report...😎
Life perservers are well named. I guess they didn’t have them. The boat didn’t crash so they should have been OK. Freezing, but OK.
10 people looks like a lot for that boat though the size/length is difficult to estimate given the background. Nothing mentioned about other boats capsizing. 6 dead means no or few lifejackets.

2 missing on a lake is no life jackets in my estimation
We grew up on the beach. My father always said do not go out on the water without them. He was a marine fighter pilot. Carriers
The bay constables kept us in line as well. None of the creepy boys wanted to lose boating privileges so everyone wore floatation devices. And no drinking and boating.
Neat, all I had a was a heavy old canoe, but you can sure end up in the water easy with them, especially with inexperienced friends.
I'm 6'6" tall. It just has to about that depth for me to drown.
The thing is, in salt water you float much more readily. Buoyancy. My friend swam in the Dead Sea said it was like just floating. Same principle lake vs bay
In a cold lake forget it.

Thought the same. If not at maximum capacity, close to it. Boats can become quite unsafe when at their limits, as can any other vehicle. Tragic. Can’t help but think it could have been prevented had they all taken a few seconds before they set off to locate a sufficient number of flotation devices. A reminder for us all.

2nd deepest lake in the US
Oops, thanks. I even saw that!
I lived in South Lake Tahoe for a short period in 1978-79 and that lake scared the crap out of me when I heard how deep and cold it was. Beautiful to look at but not to enter IMO.
