No mention of the condition of the turtle. I hope it’s ok.

would that be like having a big rock on the runway?

To be fair, the turtle wasn’t going to dodge.

Fire the person who allowed the guy to get a pilots license.

Looks like the pilot stalled in an attempted go around to avoid the turtle. Should have just hit the turtle..... Oh well.

This story absolutely epitomizes the animal insanity that is prevalent everywhere today.
They were here before us why can’t we just be like the animals the Earth would be so much better without us. Spit.

This is why you never, ever try to avoid hitting a small animal in your way, be it in a car or airplane.

Tortoise, not a turtle.

What’s up with pet turtles anyway? Can’t really pet them or brush their fur. Get close they pull in their head and legs, take him for walk up & down the driveway takes all evening.
And he’s a cold-blooded killer.

I used to fly small planes and if there’s anything on the runway it requires a go around. Having a seat nope tire hit a large object during landing could be catastrophic
Captain Esteban:
"Your father, I'm sorry to say, had a terrible accident."
Don Diego:
"Accident?"
Captain Esteban:
"Sí. He was out riding when his horse was frightened by a turtle . . . . . . my friend — I want you to know that the turtle who caused this has been executed."

The turtle was proving to the chickens that it can be done. Opossums have been trying to do this for years.

Be interested to know how large the turtle was before criticizing the pilot.
Around here, we have the maybe 6” box turtled everywhere. Much as I avoid running over them with the car or tractor, not sure I’d risk a landing over one.
OTOH, we have significantly larger turtles I’ve seen. Probably 12” or more and likely with a much tougher shell.
Not sure I’d want to risk hitting one with the landing gear of a light aircraft. There are enough variables to account for during landing without worrying about dodging the living equivalent of a small boulder on the runway.

Notice the accident occurred in Mocksville, NC, so, yes, he was killed by the Mock Turtle.
