I am in a litigation support role that was 100 percent on-site forever. When we were sent home in early 2020 the management discovered th at those who goofed off at home were the same ones who goofed off on-site. On top of that, the automated tools and metrics answered a bunch of productivity questions. Oh, they also discovered that they could let go of some very expensive Chinatown DC and similar office leases.

I don’t think anyone is surprised by this.

Not just federal employees, worse with federal contractors as only the COR (Contracting Officer’s Representative) would supposedly be their federal employee monitor (LOL!) and they basically sign off on whatever contracting company invoices are submitted to them. The CORs in my former office got in trouble (and some were fired) for questioning dubious invoices. The contractors bill and in many instances make much more than federal employees. The contracting companies don’t care whether their employees show up to (or do any) work or not, as long as their invoices for the billed hours are paid.

This is well documented. By the self admission of one, during and after COVID, working from home was total screw-off time.

Not a smidgen of work was being done by her team and she bragged about it.

And nobody missed their lack of work. Didn’t even raise a flag.

I think it was associated with USAID in some way, which is unsurprising. Their work wasn’t needed, it was only a huge money laundering endeavor.

Then, think about how many other parts of the Federal Government did exactly the same thing when they ALL worked from home.

Huge numbers of them did no work, didn’t report to work, and nobody even noticed. But their departments were still budgeted, and they still got paid.

Good gig if you can get it.

Work from home was abused.. No shit. That was a given to those of us who actually work.

No more tele-work from home!?

Back to calling in sick, long lunches, extra breaks, padding clock rings, and sleeping at their desks !

Look for, the Union label....

Government jobs exist to provide a middle class lifestyle to otherwise unemployable adults.
