Iran's Dissident Kurds Seek US Help to Pave Way for Government's 'Collapse'
Newsweek ^ | May 30, 2025 | Tom O'Connor

Posted on 06/13/2025 10:34:45 PM PDT by SunkenCiv

The head of a dissident Iranian Kurdish movement has told Newsweek his group is urging the United States to foster contacts with opposition factions in the Islamic Republic to undermine and ultimately overthrow the government.

While not seeking armed support, Komala Party of the Iranian Kurdistan Secretary-General Abdullah Mohtadi appealed to President Donald Trump to establish a relationship that would help set the conditions for the unraveling of the Iranian government...

However, while generally supportive of the Kurdish cause in other countries, such as Iraq, Syria and Turkey, Mohtadi was reluctant to frame Komala's current goals as being linked to the long-sought establishment of a united, independent Kurdistan spanning all four nations...

A number of Iranian Kurdish factions, including PJAK and Komala's Communist Party and Reform factions, are known to operate in Iraq's Kurdish regions.

The Iranian military has occasionally launched attacks against Kurdish targets, most recently in January of last year, when the IRGC conducted a series of missile strikes against what Iranian officials alleged to be a base for Israel's Mossad...

Mohtadi, for his part, was similarly cautious about the prospect of foreign military action against Iran, though he did not rule out forging a partnership with Israel.

"We welcome any support from any democratic country in the region or in the West for our struggle against this regime," Mohtadi said. "We haven't had any. What we need is in the future is that a free, democratic Iran, will not be an enemy of Israel."

"We do not want this slogan of destruction of Israel to continue in the future," he added. "...We do not want hostilities against our neighbors in the future and the remedy for all of these bad policies is a democratic change in Iran."

No. No. No. They need to work it out themselves without us once again squandering our blood and treasure in a far away place that’ll end up hating us anyway. Ask Germany, Britain or Frogland for cash and prizes instead.

Well Iran does deserve some payback for the thousands of dead and maimed GI’s from Iraq and Afghanistan.

US should not be in the business of changing governments and creating new countries.
Go do that on Mars with Musk's rockets and Optimus robots.
You don't have to kill anyone to do it.

The Kurds are the third largest ethnic group in Iran (after Persian and Azeri).

Regarding the Azeris, they got split between Persia, now Iran, and Russia a long time ago. The Russian part got organized as Azerbaijan SSR during the Soviet Union days, and is now an independent republic.

Regarding the Kurds, in keeping with their nomadic roots, they are spread from Iran through Iraq to Turkey and Syria. Nationalists among them wish for an independent Kurdish republic spanning the entire region of ethnic Kurds. But, there would be problems such as water rights and trade routes. Also, the problem of the people who would be minorities within an independent Kurdistan.

Clashes among ethnic groups will continue until the day comes, if it ever does, that rights are seen as belonging to individuals, not to groups. If possible, we should stay the hell out of such age-old problems.

I spent 7 years on Twitter working closely with Kurds in N. Syria. It was an education. The 4 Kurdish groups are very different culturally.

They were great allies when we undertook the task of eliminating ISIS. (11,000 of them died fighting ISIS, our military held them in great respect.)

They are all aligned differently with the nation they are attached to.

None of them get a fair shake in any of the 4 nations.

A little known fact? There were 400,000 Jewish Kurds that Israel removed from places in the 4 countries. Some are still in Israel now. And I have been told they are respected.

It will be hard to unite Kurds into one nation.

Israel National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir is from a Kurdish Jewish family. One of the reason Leftist Ashkenaz Jewish elites in Israel hate him.

“Leftist Ashkenaz Jewish elites”

Well. I never met or talked to a Leftist that I was comfortable with. They have no values in life. Nothing to moor too.

My Kurdish connections went away when I was banned from X. No, I did nothing wrong, but was accused of automating Tweets and giving away private information. Neither were true.

But Life is simpler now. I still follow the Middle East. My go to for info now is Amir Tsarfati and a few old friends in Cairo and FR and another forum.

I’ve been following groups that were struggling for freedom since the Mid 1970’s. Long story.

Have met some very interesting people along the way. I am 77 now.

The Israelis are already doing this. No need for the US to get involved with the exception of recognizing the new government once the Mullocracy is overthrown.

We should have done that in Iraq when we had the chance. Kurds in Iran would have joined in as well as those in Turkey and Syria. The only one with the wisdom to say it was senator Joe Biden.

As much as I would like to see it as possible, the danger in it is that to the extent that American support is made known the regime will use that as a political weapon against the dissidents.

Maybe we should support a government the Iranians want, rather than support whoever will do our bidding as we did in 1953.
