A foolish tourist in Italy sat on a chair adorned with thousands of Swarovski crystals for a photo op, crushing the precious work of art beneath his weight.
Instead of lowering himself and pretending to sit for the photo — like the woman accompanying him had done — security video shows a man deciding to go for it and sit down. The chair crumbled under his weight, as he lost his balance, trying to hold on to the wall with both hands so he didn’t fall.
The woman came to his rescue, and the pair scurried out of the room.

The art piece by Italian artist Nicola Bolla was named the “Van Gogh” chair, as it resembles a chair in one of the legendary Dutch painter’s most famous pieces. The museum described it as an extremely delicate piece of work, entirely covered in crystals.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
How much did the museum pay for this thing (speaking of idiocy)? :^)
Idiot...
Idiot museum puts a chair where a chair should be.
I’m no Art Historian...but WHY was this ‘chair’ OUT THERE for anyone to SIT ON in the FIRST PLACE? Yikes!
Never, EVER trust ‘The General Public.’ Never. EVER!
They look American.
See honey, that’s why fat people can’t have anything nice.
Agree.
They fled the Gallery, under a dark cloud of guilt.
Walking hand in hand, heads down, like Adam & Eve, newly evicted the Garden of Eden.
Tourist name was Mohammed?
I think he was sending a message about the environmental destruction caused by Trump, in an abstract way, of course.
Swarovski crystals can now be found in the gift shop. BOGO.
That said, I do remember this story about a four year old boy who tipped the unprotected jar over to see what was inside:
I could just imagine Dad: "Heheheheh...Billy, what do you think? Any candy in there?"
And before he could react, the kid just pulled the jar over! (I don't know what Dad really said...)
But the museum put it out without protections.
I figured the idiot ignored the cordoned off velvet ropes around the chair
But the idiot museum didn’t even rope off the chair
Conclusion: Idiots abound
I’ve considered going into the arts. My first project will be a giant selfie stick, which will be holding a giant phone replica, and the camera and screen will be working, so the sweaty tourists will be able to see themselves. :^)
It was up on a white podium.
But there are always idiot tourists, to ruin things for the rest of us. In Italy they sit on fragile crystal coated chairs, in the Yellowstone they keep trying to pet the fluffy cows.
So we can never have an unobstructed view of anything due to the need for guard rails and plexiglass.
I am surprised museums like this do not require identification for such instances. The art piece is likely a fraud to hide guilty money. All the same, they should pay for the piece.
Well, it really wasn’t actually Van Gogh’s chair, so there is that consolation. But having it out like that and letting people pretend to sit on it was a disaster that was bound to happen eventually.
Look like some weight control is needed.
