Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered on Thursday to build and deploy drone troops as soon as possible, APA reports citing TASS.

"We are currently building drone troops as a separate branch of the military, and these should be developed and deployed as soon as possible," the head of state said at a meeting discussing a new state arms program.

Fighting against various unmanned aerial vehicles has required "new approaches and non-standard solutions," Putin explained.

"The new state arms program should provide for forming a universal air defense system that would function in any situation and effectively hit means of air attack, regardless of their type," the president stressed.

Goose guns? 20mm Oerlikons? How about the 280mm Lepage glue gun. Glues a whole formation of drones together in mid air.

Russian lessons learned puts them ahead of the curve on this.

This is a specialization that requires a stovepipe organization and indi idual chain of command.

Similiar in nature to space command where an entire additional organization is added to ensure no one mismanages or hampers operations because they need resources elsewhere.

Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II is my favorite plane of all time.

however, if we can come up with a drone that’s just a flying 30 mm GAU-8 Avenger rotary autocannon, that would be the end game.

as the famous Ben Richards once said: Food riot in progress. Approximately 1800 civilians, Proceeding with plan Alpha. Eliminate anything moving.

USAF? No way. The first-person view (FPV) drones are clearly Combat Close Support and, in the American military, should be a separate MOS in units attached to combat arms units. Soldiers/marines with that operational assignment should have a good understanding of ground combat operations and how they can best support such operations.

I trust our military are currently urgently studying how they need to modify current doctrine, organization and training.

The US military has a drone corps that has been active at Nellis Air Base, Nevada, for years. There is also an advanced bit of military drone expertise activity at Alamogordo, NM.

Probably a good idea to not put new wine (drone warfare) into old wine skins (existing branches)..

Unless already done, the USAF should be creating a drone related major command. The same hold true for the US Navy & Army.

It is the future of warfare. We have to be able to defend against massive drone attacks as well as attack our enemies with drones.
