Ukraine says it shot down Russian Su-35 fighter jet

Ukraine's air forces shot down a Russian Su-35 fighter jet on Saturday morning, the Ukrainian military said.

"This morning, on June 7, 2025, as a result of a successful Air Force operation in the Kursk direction, a Russian Su-35 fighter jet was shot down," the military said on the Telegram messenger.

It gave no more details. Russian forces have not yet commented on the matter while Reuters could not independently verify the report.

F-16s are so yesterday, and no match for ultramodern, sleek SU-35s

The F-16’s Ukraine has, maybe.

The F-16’s in the USAF? Probably not. Because those F-16’s have F-15’s, AWAC’s, and other (USN, etc.) platforms at their assistance.

In other words, USAF > SU-35’s, Russian AF. ALL day.

It’s like sending F-18 F/G’s against Iran’s 40+ year old F-14’s. Sure, the F-14’s are pretty, but they’re woefully outdated.

Yet the Soviet Union collapsed and Russia itself fell into disorder for a decade. Before that, the Tsarist regime collapsed in 1917. That is not a good track record.
