A pet zebra has escaped in Tennessee, stunning drivers as it repeatedly raced down residential streets — even bringing a busy interstate to a standstill.

The still-at-large animal was spotted several times across Rutherford County, southeast of Nashville, on Saturday, and sheriffs say the animal remains at large, unless its owner has found it and not reported it.

Dodging vehicles and narrowly avoiding getting hit, the pet caused havoc when it ran along a busy Greater Nashville interstate over the weekend.

The zebra broke loose on Saturday, just a day after its owner purchased it, the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office said.

Just last week, there was the story of a Joey (young ‘Roo) who had escaped from his owner for the second time, and being rounded up by cops. They grabbed and caught him. Carried him to the squad car.

***If you see this Zebra, DO NOT approach him from behind.
Zebras have a very powerful rear kick. Worse than a Bronco!

The same thing happened a few years ago where we live in Chandler AZ. Having a zebra running loose on city streets was quite bizarre.

If he was trying to escape, he should have got rid of those Black and white prison stripes. They’re a dead give away.

Surely there's a Country song to be made out of all of this.

Any guesses where he's headed?

Many years ago, a lady stopped by our house and said something to the effect of “ I know I’m going to sound like a nut but our zebra escaped. Would you happen to have seen it?” I had seen it in the past so it was legitimate. I never heard if she found it.

They make for horrible pets from what I hear.

Poor frightened animal. I hope it didn’ get killed.

I think it’s unconsciounable to have a wild animal as a pet.

Wouldn’t it help in identifying it if they would tell us if it a white zebra with black stripes or a black zebra with white stripes?

Once captured the referee will be returned to Titan’s Stadium to endure the shame of calling their upcoming season.
