Since Trump began his second term, Britain has become a political escape hatch for American celebrities and wealthy Democrats.
It’s so popular that last week, the British Home Office released data showing that in the 12 months leading up to March, almost 7,000 US citizens applied to become British subjects or live here indefinitely — the highest number since such records began in 2004.
A third of those applications have been received since Trump took office at the start of 2025.

But the glitzy progressives falling for Britain may find they are in for a shock: This is not the liberal paradise they imagined, despite our Labour prime minister. In fact, Britain’s next leader could be a lot like Donald Trump.
The populist Reform party is surging in the polls, threatening to explode Britain’s political landscape. It is built around Brexit architect Nigel Farage, an anti-immigration figure with similar cult-like status to Trump and the president’s erstwhile close friend.
Reform is no fringe party: 40% of Brits think Farage will be the next Prime Minister.

Unless it's a tourist-targeted Indian restaurant, where it's about as authentic as in the US.
We should revoke all those passports the moment they board the plane/ship.
There is good sushi and Indian food to be had there . . .
Out of the frying pan. Into the bonfire.
Agreed.
I agree.
“The food is almost as bad.”

Fergus Henderson is a culinary God. ST John’s is top of my list. It’s a bucket list place. Every time I am in the UK it gets a reservation.

Enjoy every one of these places is world class food.
The food is as good or bad as you cook it.
The weather is what it is.
The housing is, to me anyway, ugly.
It is difficult to get around because all the streets were laid out 800 years ago so hard to drive and confused. The Northern towns aren't as walkable as is often thought and there is no parking
The churches are nearly empty
The people, other than the Muslims, are friendly enough, but use a lot of really course expressions. A lot of them strike me as stupid and lazy.
I like the food in grocery stores and hope the RFK jr. Makes the same rules here.
The country side is rather pretty.
It isn't like the BBC programs made for an American audience portray it.
“ A lot of them strike me as stupid and lazy.”
I realized on my one trip to Great Britain that anyone with any “get up and go”, got up and left 300 years ago. It was a nice country. It’s full of history. I met a lot of nice people.
But i was happy to leave and come home.
Just so these scum are never allowed to return to the U.S.
“You mean people aren’t killed by creative means on a weekly basis in small towns and villages.
Midsomer is on my no go”
Yep
Yeah, Los Angeles it is not.
And it is EXPENSIVE!!!!! Oh, and dont’ forget about the no-go zones, compliments of Hadji and his 6 wives and 35 kids..
That whole "ENGLAND HAS LOUSY FOOD" tripe is a massive canard!
Granted, steak & kidney pie isn't something that I'd EVER care to sample;however, a lovely dinner of roast beef with Yorkshire Pudding ( it's like a giant popover, that you get a slice of ) is delicious and their "afters"/that's desserts to us, are fantastic!
Shepard's pie ( that akin to a pot pie ), fish & chips ( chips are French fries to us), lamb chops, mutton chops, steak, so many different things to choose from and I've hardly named many at all.
What, you don’t like mutton and beans on toast?
No, the food is good and we, in America eat a LOT of the same things; always have.
So are many Americans and many here on FR!
