Why American celebrities ‘escaping’ Trump by fleeing to Britain may be in for a big surprise
NY Post ^ | 5/31/25 | Zoe Strimpel

Since Trump began his second term, Britain has become a political escape hatch for American celebrities and wealthy Democrats.

It’s so popular that last week, the British Home Office released data showing that in the 12 months leading up to March, almost 7,000 US citizens applied to become British subjects or live here indefinitely — the highest number since such records began in 2004.

A third of those applications have been received since Trump took office at the start of 2025.

**SNIP**

But the glitzy progressives falling for Britain may find they are in for a shock: This is not the liberal paradise they imagined, despite our Labour prime minister. In fact, Britain’s next leader could be a lot like Donald Trump.

The populist Reform party is surging in the polls, threatening to explode Britain’s political landscape. It is built around Brexit architect Nigel Farage, an anti-immigration figure with similar cult-like status to Trump and the president’s erstwhile close friend.

Reform is no fringe party: 40% of Brits think Farage will be the next Prime Minister.

The Indian food in London is quite good.

Unless it's a tourist-targeted Indian restaurant, where it's about as authentic as in the US.

There are days of pleasant weather. However, the food is uniformly bad.

Well, if you are wealthy enough, you hire Anatole.

“The food is almost as bad.”

London has some of the best food in the world.

Fergus Henderson is a culinary God. ST John’s is top of my list. It’s a bucket list place. Every time I am in the UK it gets a reservation.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/cq9d7om7ZKr3t8RT7

The Harwood Arms they hold a Michelin star, you want the wild venison from the Midlands it’s a singular experience.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/ky2UJNTSwYbtuDhP7

Roast...you want the Ox hearts, or the traditional Sunday roast.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/9efZhW35Hzhbnejt9

Now we go traditional

E Pellicci...125 years of full English breakfast greatness.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/xu2H8Kg42uJg2LrV7

F Cooke Pie & Mash Hoxton...19th century pies ,mash and mushy peas, they also have the original eel and eel liquor no one else still does it and they are the oldest and the best bar none for pies and mash.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/idVoKeszUJKR4ahs7

Swan and Globe...high tea of champions accept no substitute.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/eNAaAKJHF13cbrKx9

Rock and Sole Plaice...it would be a crime to miss real fish and chips this is one of the best anywhere.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/w3AEjRmDN7dRqCru7

Punjab Restaurant...tikka masala is as British as fish and chips it’s the national dish and this place is the standard by which others are judged by.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/Ax4UbejW8r8duL6G6

Lahore Kebab House..same for kebab this is spot on Pakistani having had Pakistanis cook at home for me in the UK it’s like grandma in the kitchen there.

Enjoy every one of these places is world class food.

We have a daughter who lives in the UK and grandkids there. So, we've spent a lot of time there.

The food is as good or bad as you cook it.

The weather is what it is.

The housing is, to me anyway, ugly.

It is difficult to get around because all the streets were laid out 800 years ago so hard to drive and confused. The Northern towns aren't as walkable as is often thought and there is no parking

The churches are nearly empty

The people, other than the Muslims, are friendly enough, but use a lot of really course expressions. A lot of them strike me as stupid and lazy.

I like the food in grocery stores and hope the RFK jr. Makes the same rules here.

The country side is rather pretty.

It isn't like the BBC programs made for an American audience portray it.

“ A lot of them strike me as stupid and lazy.”

I realized on my one trip to Great Britain that anyone with any “get up and go”, got up and left 300 years ago. It was a nice country. It’s full of history. I met a lot of nice people.

But i was happy to leave and come home.

The food is actually very good and a LOT of what you think is "AMERICAN CUISINE" is, in reality English!

That whole "ENGLAND HAS LOUSY FOOD" tripe is a massive canard!

Granted, steak & kidney pie isn't something that I'd EVER care to sample;however, a lovely dinner of roast beef with Yorkshire Pudding ( it's like a giant popover, that you get a slice of ) is delicious and their "afters"/that's desserts to us, are fantastic!

Shepard's pie ( that akin to a pot pie ), fish & chips ( chips are French fries to us), lamb chops, mutton chops, steak, so many different things to choose from and I've hardly named many at all.
