Trump’s Ukraine envoy warns against trusting Putin without consulting Europe

Donald Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, has urged Washington’s chief negotiator with Moscow, Steve Witkoff, to consult European leaders before placing trust in Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.

Witkoff has been part of U.S. delegations leading talks with Moscow and Kyiv since February, after Trump tasked members of his administration to help negotiate an end to Russia’s three-year war in Ukraine.

However, he has faced criticism from Kyiv for peddling Russian narratives, including a suggestion to hand over four partially occupied eastern Ukrainian regions to Moscow.

In March, Witkoff said that Putin has no intention to “take all of Europe”. His remarks drew sharp reactions in Kyiv and in European capitals, where they were seen as aligning with Kremlin rhetoric.

On Friday, during an interview with U.S. broadcaster ABC News, Kellogg was asked about Witkoff’s statements and whether his colleague should trust Putin’s intentions regarding ending the conflict.

Kellogg said he would advise Witkoff to consult European leaders before reposing any faith in the Russian leader.

“When you look at Europeans… I would advise Steve [Witkoff], you know, ‘you better talk to Chancellor of Germany [Friedrich] Merz, you got the President of France, [Emmanuel] Macron, you got the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, [Keir] Starmer,’” Kellogg said.

“They see the world a little bit differently. They live in their neighborhood, and it’s a tough neighborhood to live in. And they think they are at risk,” he added.

Europe needs to fix their own problems. We need to be out of the equation.

Europe hates Russia, Europe is hating Israel more and more.

Kick Europe to the curb would be my knee-jerk response is there really anything more constructive to do at this point?

Annex Canada and remove Keir Starmer from power in the UK seem like more positive steps to deal with the Russia-Israel hating governments they have.

Again off the cuff thinking but I like that more than what I see happening out there right now.

Official policy in Washington disillusions me I think they want to unite against China Macron and Hegseth both spoke in that direction in Singapore at the security conference.

I did not vote for Donald Trump to come together with Russia and Israel hating nations to oppose China???

This is all posturing. Later when European leadership is whining about anything short of Putin being arrested and executed and all of Russia’s natural resources being turned over to the EU... President Trump will be able to say that he asked his team to consult with them before the deal was finalized.

Said before.

Leave NATO and kick the EU to the side.
Withdraw completely from tge Russo-Ukraine conflict. There is no money in it. There is no strategic reason for it.

Negoitiate a trade agreement with Russia to get into eastern Siberia along the Pacific Rim, for minerals, etc.

Shipping across the Pacific to the west coast is obviously easier than shipping across the black sea, through the straits, and med to our east coast.

Drive a wedge in between Russia and Red China.
The pacific rim is vital to our national interest. Not Ukraine.

The EU has nothing we need. Let them rot.
Deal with each country individually.

Witkoff is right and anyone who believes otherwise is among the most gullible of the neocon’s propaganda targets.

Europe needs to fix their own problems.

The problem Europe needs to fix... is to quit chest bumping Russia and to maybe allow Europe to have an elected government, combined with free speech.

The EU is a bigger threat to the US than Russia is.

F@#$ Eurotards. They caused this by not forcing Ukraine to honor the Minsk agreement — ceding the Donbas since the citizens there voted to join Russia.

Funny, Europe hasn't been contributing to NATO over the decades like they were facing a threat. They were quite happy to let us carry a lot of the burden.

Bottom line: You're right, they need to take ownership of their own problems.

Check with NATO leaders for their opinion about Putin, the head of state who is defeating them in battle? Gosh, I’m sure they’ll give a positive report!
