Do I amuse you?
The Big Apple boasts the most confident sounding accents in the US, a recent study found.
The unique tone, marked by dropped “R”s, shifted vowels (like coffee becoming “caw-fee”) and tough talk — often thought of as a specific Brooklyn or Bronx sound, is particularly associated with working-class, multi-generational New Yawkas.
Think Joe Pesci’s “Funny how” in “Goodfellas” and Chazz Palminteri’s iconic “Now youse can’t leave” in “A Bronx Tale” — or anything Fran Drescher.
“There’s a rhythm to it that cuts through small talk and its placement and resonance tends to sit further forward giving it a brighter sound — which tends to resonate louder in most spaces,” voice coach Molly Parker told The Post.

I would rather listen to 1,000 cats’ throats being slit than Joe Pesci and Ann Drescher greeting one another.
I’m from Alabama with family in Texas, Minnesota, Massachusetts, and New Brunswick. The few times we’re all together we laugh at each other’s accents.
Fran, whatevah! ( braying like a donkey)
A bit selfserving, considering it is from the New York Post.
Not unlike the article the other day saying intelligent people are more liberal.
The Yankees are coming! Cover your ears, child!
When I fly into NY I shift gears.
When I’m with my family and in-laws, cousins, forget it. I have to be so quick with a story, a point, an idea, a joke, or I’m shut out. There’s no “um, honey what year was that? How old was little Steviewhen this happened? We were in Italy, no no I think we were in Germany…”
Get to the freaking point.
“Not unlike the article the other day saying intelligent people are more liberal.”
I didn’t see that. I know a lot of intelligent people who are liberal. If They lack common sense, morality, logic, it doesn’t matter if they’re intelligent, who cares? they suck at running a country
They’ve never been left alone with my kids
I heard a story years ago of a soldier from Boston on base one day looking for his khakis. He kept saying he couldn’t find his khakis.
Another soldier said; “Look. You are wearing your khakis.”
Boston fellow said; No, my khah keys. I’ve got to go into town and I can’t find the keys to my khah.
Such a masterpiece in culture clash. Marisa Romeo got the Oscar
Fred Gwynne was born in NY. His people were New Yorkers. .
I thought it was Joisey.
Thanks for sharing. I might read the rest later. Here’s where I lost interest
“cognitive ability and a tendency toward socially liberal, less authoritarian beliefs”
The only authoritarians in my world are liberal family and telling me I have to get a shot and what I’m not allowed to listen to news wise
These are not examples of "intelligence."
They’re independent of it. I’m tests don’t test for morality, common sense. Understanding what’s going to happen if you let 20 million people in. Caring whether they’re intelligent presidential race is rigged
Honesty.

I am fine with Pesci - but listening to Fran’s voice is akin to having construction nails driven into your head (and I used to work closely with one of her uncles, and met her father on one occasion, so it isn’t because I dislike the family at all).
We Arizonans have a great accent, too! But it’s an acquired taste!
Is this true just for New Yawk City or does it apply to Lawn Guy Land too?
I amuse you? I make you laugh, like I’m a clown ... I’m here to f***ing amuse you?
What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?
