Ruddy: Trump, Zelenskyy Want Peace, Putin Does Not
Newsmax ^ | 5/28/2025 | Christopher Ruddy

President Donald Trump has had a simple and bold plan to win the peace in the brutal war between Russia and Ukraine.

In my opinion, Trump knew getting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Ukrainians to negotiate was never going to be the problem.

But Russian President Vladimir Putin would be.

So Trump seemingly castigated the Ukrainians at the very same time he extended a very welcoming hand to Putin, a nonthreatening and nonjudgmental one at that.

Trump's maneuver was a brilliant one, including a peace deal that would start with both sides agreeing to an immediate ceasefire.

As expected, Zelenskyy quickly signed on.

At Trump's demand, the Ukrainians even gave away a big chunk of their national wealth in a minerals deal with the U.S.

Putin has talked a good game and still does.

While Trump and Zelenskyy have taken concrete steps toward peace, Russia has actually stepped up its attacks against Ukraine.

This past weekend, Russian forces have undertaken one of their largest combined drone and missile strikes since the invasion began in February of 2022.

The recent attacks, largely targeting civilian centers, have included nine Kh-101 cruise missiles and a record 355 Shahed-type attack drones.

Putin's ongoing attacks have contributed to the wider toll of the war on Ukraine, which has seen hundreds of thousands of casualties, millions displaced and significant damage to the nation's civilian infrastructure.

Russia's own toll has been enormous, with estimates of total Russians killed and wounded around 1 million men.

With his proposals, Trump had offered Putin a relatively easy off-ramp from his apparent suicidal mission.

But the Russian leader doesn't want a deal.

I remember Ruddy from the Vince Foster days.

He was doing decent investigative work—and then turned on a dime and stabbed us in the back.

The Deep State turned him—and they own him now.

Oh, and Ruddy’s a major globalist himself. From wikipedia:

“He is a member of the International Council, chaired by Henry Kissinger, at the CSIS, a bipartisan Washington, D.C., think tank focused on national security and foreign affairs.[12] Ruddy also served as a representative on the U.S. delegation headed by Senators Joseph Lieberman and Lindsey Graham to the NATO 44th Munich Security Conference.[13]

From 2009 to 2013, Ruddy served on the board of directors of the American Swiss Foundation, a nonprofit organization that fosters relations between the two countries. In 2015 he was elected to the board of directors of the Zweig Fund and the Zweig Total Return Funds, two New York Stock Exchange-traded closed-end funds managed by Virtus.[14]”

Give a signal to the Russian oligarchs (who actually run the country) that things would be more favorable to them if Putin is somehow taken out of the picture.

The Ukraine war was, is, and always will be a money-laundering operation.

You forgot to mention the "strange cult" of "Zelensky loyalists"...

...and how strange it is, that they spend time on FreeRepublic instead of Democrat Underground...

;^)

I’ve sometimes wondered if it came down to choosing sides between the USA or Ukraine how many people on this site would choose Ukraine.

Oh, they will protest that they are pro America. But, really how many are? We might be surprised, or not.

How many Americans want to fight Putin’s Russia! How many want a draft to get the fifteen Million Man Army to seize Russia? How many want 150% Tax increase for the war? How many cities do you want to lose if, on the chance Russian Nukes work? Twenty? Thirty? To stop Russia and recover the Crimea for Zelensky how many want WW III. What if China joins the fight? You know North Korea will. How many US Troops will die re-taking North Korea? It might be fun for a while, singing, marches in the street—war bond rallies, a nation unified. All illegals drafted to fight. Work for all! This time women will be drafted—hey, they can work a drone better than men. If we rally the nation we might win but heaven help us if we lose.

Lol...Trump couldn't even get the Ukies to sign a minerals agreement with the United States without endless delays and confrontations.

The Putin loyalists have an affinity for the Russian identity of grievance and inferiority to the civilized world. They are outsiders with deep seated grievances at America and it’s hard to understand why.

Ukraine, well most of it, was free as it was ever going to get until they decided to attack people in their own country.

Independent? Hah never, they were as corrupt as can be and that is why it didn’t take too long for the western interests to use that place as a way to get at Russia.

All this hokey pokey crap about all free and sovereign is hogwash. They had been under the influence of the highest buyers for years.

The average citizen there was poor as hell. Those people will never be free. Died for nothin’.

And some who are being identified as Putin loyalists are just anti war and American involvement in foreign wars.

If the Putin loyalists were really anti-war, they would tell Putin to go home and leave Ukraine. He is the invader.

Russia sacrificing 50 men to advance 100 yards to capture a tree line in a bombed out field isn’t winning. The last town of significance Russia took was Bakhmut which was 2 years ago. And then Putin blew up his best general Prigozhin right after he took the town.

“ If the Putin loyalists were really anti-war,”

That isn’t at all what I said. Not even close.

My wife follows trends on Russian social media and not only are Russian Putin sycophants pro war, they are rabidly murderous in their slogans and hatred for Ukraine. Many want to see all Ukrainians, civilians too, wiped out. They also hate Americans except for brief interludes when Trump is perceived as less than a threat.

“Trying to assassinate Russia’s leader by drone strikes doesn’t facilitate Russia’s willingness to negotiate”
Trying to assassinate a president in his own country and also blowing up a Russian general’s car are enough to piss Putin off. That’s when Putin went full speed ahead.
Trump has had assassination attempts in his own country too, so he understands Putin’s anger. And maybe Zelensky was in on that too. We don’t know.
Zelensky has not been targeted by Putin.
The punk has lost a war and should just face facts.
